- FillingsThey don’t require as much removal of your existing tooth structure. Silver amalgam fillings need to be at least two millimeters deep and all of the weakened tooth structure needs to be removed. Since white composite fillings are bonded to the teeth and there is no minimum depth requirements, the weakened tooth structure can be left alone.

They don’t last forever (generally about four years), and are not the drop dead, gorgeous smile you’d get with veneers, but they are a great choice for special events like a wedding, class reunion, an important interview— any event where you want a beautiful smile without the large price tag.
- CrownsWhen a tooth has been worn down or is badly decayed, a porcelain crown, sometimes called a cap, can be used. This treatment can effectively restore a single tooth or several teeth. You can see a diagram of how it fits in place shown to the left.

- Root Canal TreatmentTooth decay is the main cause for needing a root canal treatment. What happens is that the decay gets into the pulp of the tooth, which you can see illustrated in the diagram shown to the right. In turn, the pulp becomes infected. The pulp will naturally try to fight off the infection which means it will want to swell. But within a tooth there is nowhere for the swelling to go, so the tissue dies instead of healing.
