- Osteoporosis
- Medical Weight LossBat wings, hanging skin from the arm is never attractive. What makes this condition so frustrating is that diet and exercise often doesn’t correct the laxity. In fact, hanging arm skin is often caused BY diet and exercise. Rapid weight loss is forgiving in some people. In others, the skin just can’t catch up with the fat loss. If the skin doesn’t retract, saggy skin is the result. Below is the common appearance of “bat wings”.
- Primary CareEvery patient is screened for fever before being seen by Dr. Neavin. If a fever or any symptoms are present, patients will be asked to follow up with their primary care physician for further work-up and the test will not be completed.
- Emergency Care*Patients testing positive for the ACTIVE Virus will need to be rescheduled for 6 weeks following their last negative viral test, even if asymptomatic, unless they are in need of urgent care.
- Laser Eye SurgeryEyebrows tend to drop with aging. When eyebrows start to sag, they can bestow a look of tiredness or even anger. For this reason, forehead and eye surgery can be viewed as surgery that improves your expression as well as your appearance.
- Pregnancy
- Labor and DeliveryThe natural process of childbirth and/or the aging process can compromise the integrity of the vaginal walls and muscles; not only to the back (posterior) wall, but to the sides, front and the tissues surrounding the vaginal opening and urethra. The result is a relaxed vaginal canal (vaginal relaxation) and an enlarged vaginal opening.
- Prostate CancerGenes related to angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) and hypoxia-inducible factor 1A (HIF1a) largely contribute to the development of the fibrous bands responsible for the displeasing dimpling seen in cellulite. Of note, adrenaline and noradrenaline are catecholamines released during times of stress and thus it can be argued that a stressful lifestyle may exacerbate the condition. In addition, while there is no unequivocal evidence linking estrogen to the condition of creation of cellulite, it is interesting to observe that it is rarely seen in men. And, it is more common in men with androgen deficient conditions as found in Klinefelter’s syndrome, hypogonadism, and in men receiving estrogen therapy in the treatment of prostate cancer.

- Mental HealthBefore you undergo breast implant removal, you will meet with Dr. Neavin to discuss your decision. He will ask you to give an account of your medical history, and may require specific information about your original breast augmentation surgery, such as the year you had the procedure, the type of implant that you have, and the technique that was used. If you have symptoms of BII, please give details of any physical discomfort, cognitive deficits, or mental health issues you believe are due to the condition, and tell him how they have affected your daily life. Please also expect to confirm when you first noticed the onset of your symptoms.

- RadiologyImplants can affect the accuracy of mammogram tests because they might block the mammogram’s view. However, mammograms are still possible even if you have implants. Technicians have ways they can improve accuracy but its important that you inform your doctor or radiology technician that you have implants so that they can make proper adjustments and provide proper reading
- MammographyA personal or family history of breast cancer is not a contraindication for breast reduction surgery. However, it should be approached a little differently than someone who has no such history. For one, the screening algorithm changes. Breast exams and mammography should always begin earlier with a personal or family history. It is unwise to have breast reduction surgery that will alter the internal tissues without baseline studies. A dialogue between your plastic surgeon and a medical doctor is always a good first step.
- ChemotherapyOther reasons for balding or hair thinning can be caused from certain medical conditions. Thyroid diseases, alopecia areata, and lupus can all lead to hair loss. Additionally, treatments such as chemotherapy can cause hair loss as a side effect.
- Radiation TherapyEarlobe surgery offered by Dr. Neavin also includes keloid treatment. Keloids are an exaggerated scar response often seen in darker pigmented people. They are common in the earlobe. The management of keloids can range from steroid injections, to surgery and excision of the keloid, to surgery and a short course of radiation therapy. Sometimes health insurance will cover keloid surgery. The recovery is often quick, and it can be done in the office under local anesthesia in certain cases.
- Ear SurgeryThe goal of prominent ear surgery is to create permanently symmetrical ears that protrude within the normal degree from the temporal scalp, which is 17 to 21 mm. While perfect is not always achievable, excellent results can almost always be obtained. Because the cartilage in the adult ear is thick and has memory, the set-back is usually over-corrected by a few millimeters in anticipation that the ear will spring back within six months or more. - BotoxWhat has been found to be clinically effective in improving cellulite is injections of the collagenase enzyme produced by the bacterium Clostridium histolyticum. Interestingly, this is the second protein made by the Clostridium species that has found its way into bottles for beauty. The first, of course, is Botulinum toxin created by the bacteria Clostridium botulinum manufactured as Botox®. QWO®, Xiaflex® and Xiapex® are the product names utilizing Clostridium histolticum’s collagenase to degrade these pesty fibrous bands that cause the dimpling found in cellulite. And they do so without affecting the fat cells, which is in direct contrast to the imprecise blitzkrieg that RF delivers to tissue. That is, these products are specific to the culprit and minimizes collateral tissue damage.
- Brow LiftForehead and Brow lift are often used interchangeably. The goal is to reduce forehead wrinkles and elevate the eyebrow.
- Eyelid SurgeryUpper eyelid surgery, unless combined with other procedures, is performed under local anesthesia in the office. It involves the addition of volume to the upper eye sulcus, the removal of skin and fat on the upper lid, or a combination of above.
- LiposuctionFat grafting is a technique that makes the best of the unwanted fat in your body. The fatty bulges that line your abdomen, love handles or thighs don’t need to be thrown away after a liposuction procedure. Instead, the same fat can be transferred to the face to improve the facial contour or even enhance the buttocks.

- Breast ReductionThere are several different breast reduction techniques, the most common being an approach that requires an incision around the areola and a vertical incision extending under the breast. This lollipop incision, or short scar breast reduction, minimizes unattractive scars that can sometimes occur in more extensive breast reduction surgery. Very large breasts do require formal, under the breast scarring to allow for the removal of additional tissue and to provide more enhanced proportion for patients with larger breasts. This combination of incisions is often referred to as an anchor lift, inverted T, or Weis pattern. All techniques will provide the patient with reduced breast size and alleviate discomfort they may be experiencing from having large breasts.
- Breast LiftMastopexy is the medical term for breast lift procedures. It is also less commonly referred to as a “ boob lift.†As women age the breast tissue loses elasticity. These changes result in weakened support of the breast and the breasts will begin to droop. The medical word for breast sagging is “ptosis†(pronounced ‘toe-sis’). Once breasts begin to sag there is no stopping them to continue to do so. That is, the changes that cause breast droopiness are irreversible. Unfortunately, no diet or exercise can raise the breast or nipple. In addition, outside of

- Breast ReconstructionBreast cancer and mastectomy can be devastating to a woman. Breast reconstruction is one of the most rewarding surgeries a plastic surgeon can perform. There are many different breast reconstruction options, ranging from using your own tissue (TRAM flap, Latissimus flap) to breast implant based reconstruction. The algorithm for choosing which approach is best is rather complex. For this reason, I tend to spend a great deal of time with women discussing their options, usually on more than one visit.

- Thigh LiftThe incisions for body lift surgery will be circumferential around the waist, flanks or outer, lower thigh, and lower back. Generally they will be placed low enough to be hidden with shorts. There will also be an incision around the belly button. Body lift surgery is often combined with inner thigh lift surgery, mastopexy, and brachioplasty, which leaves additional scars in the groin or inner thigh, breasts, and inner arm.

- Neck LiftA neck lift is a very powerful procedure to rejuvenate both men and women. Neck lifts are usually combined with a facelift to avoid a patchwork-like look, or the done appearance. However, neck lifts in appropriate candidates can also be performed in isolation. Profiles of male and female patients can be dramatically improved with a neck lift.
- BlepharoplastyMany men and women complain that they have been told they look tired or have bags underneath their eyes. The eyes do often play a role in expressing our physical state. Bags or puffiness under the eyes are often managed with lower lid blepharoplasty. These small deposits of fat can be removed with an incision behind the lower lid, making the incision totally hidden.
- AbdominoplastyThe best candidates for abdominoplasty are patients who are in good shape and maintain a healthy lifestyle and want to show off their abdominal muscles. In most cases, great candidates are patients that have reached their ideal weight but are bothered by excess fat around their bellies. While they have achieved their desired goal for their upper abdomen, even if they continue to diet and exercise they may still struggle to show off their lower abdomen muscles; these patients are great candidates for a tummy tuck.
- Nose SurgeryAny nose surgery will result in prolonged edema of the tip. The degree of nose edema will be proportional to the amount of surgery and the thickness of the skin. A splint or tape will be applied for a week and stitches will be removed at seven days if the open technique was performed. Patients should continue taking antibiotics for a week after surgery.

- OtoplastyUnder the umbrella of otoplasty exists a variety of ear reshaping procedures related to either congenital defects or trauma. Earlobe surgery, while it could be included in this section, has its own devoted page. For earlobe reduction or repair please see the earlobe page on this website.
- Scar RevisionA vertical breast lift refers to the inclusion of a periareolar lift incision plus an incision that runs from the areola down to the fold This surgery technique is the preferred type for mild to moderate sagginess since it spares the incision from the fold. Grade 1 and mild Grade 2 ptosis breasts may be candidates for this technique. Mentioning a vertical mastopexy without mentioning the possible need for scar revision would be irresponsible. Because there is not horizontal incision, tissue by the fold bunches up. This bunching up generally results in a scar that may need to be revised. The percent of patients that require such a revision are about in up to 20 percent. However, the scar revision can be performed quite easily under local anesthesia in the office.
- Lip AugmentationPermaLip permanent lip augmentation has become increasingly popular over the last several years. While hyaluronic acid products such as Restylane ® and Juvederm ® have proven to be safe and effective products for enhancing the lips, they are temporary. Dermal fillers for lip augmentation last on average about six months.

- Facial ImplantsFacial implants refer to prosthetic devices inserted into the face to provide more fullness, improved symmetry, or changes in one’s appearance. They are generally used to create a younger looking face by restoring volume where it has been lost due to the aging process, or to create a more attractive face by harmonizing facial proportions.
- Bariatric SurgeryA thigh lift is a surgery that is part of the body lift procedures that addresses laxity of the upper legs. If legs have too much fat but have good skin elasticity, liposuction works well. However, if the issue is skin laxity, liposuction can actually make the problem worse. Thigh lifts are often performed after weight loss, such as the lap-band or any other bariatric surgery procedure. Different techniques in thigh lifts allow Dr. Neavin to tailor your body lift procedure to your precise needs and desired outcome. Techniques include a medial thigh lift that lifts the inner thigh, and a lateral thigh lift that lifts the outer thigh. Incisions can vary from being camouflaged in the creases in the groin or bikini line. However, in severe cases of skin laxity, the incisions may need to be extended.
- Chin AugmentationA chin augmentation procedure uses a small incision inside the mouth or under the chin to place a silicone implant. The shapes and sizes of implants available are diverse. Some implants are wide, others narrow. Some are very large and others add very subtle projection. The key to good outcomes with proper implant selection is...

- LesionsHidradenitis suppurativa (hi-drad-uh-NIE-tis sup-yoo-ruh-TIE-vuh) is also known as acne inversa that affects about one percent of the population. It is a chronic skin condition that generally starts after puberty. It may start with just one or two pimple-like lesions that just don’t go away. These bumps may become inflamed, enlarged and hard. Two or three bumps can become several. Hidradenitis can persist for years and worsen over time in a waxing and waning process that may parallel stress, hormonal changes and other factors. Excessive sweating can also exacerbate this condition.
