Southern States Cooperative Inc. was formerly known as Virginia Seed Service. Operational since 1923, it is one of the largest farmer cooperatives in the United States. The firm offers various products under categories, including apparel, farm supplies, fencing, livestock, horse supplies and seed. Southern States Cooperative Inc. operates more than 1,200 retail locations in 23 states of the United States. Additionally, it operates various feed mills, fertilizer plants/terminals, farm supply distribution centers, grain elevator retail facilities, along with crop protection and turf warehouses. The firm is a member of Cooperattee Research Farms (CRF), an animal nutrition research group.
