The New York Power Authority is one of largest, state-owned electric utility in the United States. The authority has more than 15 generating facilities in various parts of the New York State and over 1,400 circuit-miles of transmission lines. It provides nearly 1,600 programs that serve approximately 300,000 residents. The New York Power Authority offers power to government agencies, community-owned electric systems and rural electric cooperatives. The authority also specializes in the development of clean energy technologies and electric vehicles. It operates various hydropower and fossil-fueled facilities. The New York Power Authority works with state and local entities, including the New York State Economic Development Power Allocation Board (EDPAB) and the Energy Coordinating Working Group. The authority provides the Power For Jobs program that offers more than 400 megawatt of low cost power to businesses and nonprofit corporations.
