Garland Personnel, part of the city of Garland, Texas, comprises the city s police, fire and ambulance services. The personnel are responsible for answering 911 and nonemergency telephone lines, providing medical prearrival instructions during life threatening situations, routing calls to the radio operators or offices, and maintaining logs and forms required to provide the services. They also make entries into a computerized dispatch system, operate teletype equipment, and enter police initiated requests into state, federal, and local computer systems. Many of them serve as radio operators on multiple public safety radio frequencies, relaying radio messages to police, fire, and emergency medical service units in the field.
