Rice Fruit Company, founded in 1913, is one of the largest apple packing facilities in the eastern United States. It receives, stores, and packs more than a million boxes of Pennsylvania apples annually. The company offers more than 20 varieties of apples, including red delicious, golden delicious, royal gala, empire, Fuji, mutsu, Rome, stayman and Granny Smith. Its apples are stored year-round in state-of-the-art controlled atmosphere storages, and packed to specification using the electronic color-sorting equipment and electronic sizers. Varieties of pears offered by the company include barlett, red barlett, shinseiki, niitaka, bosc, seckel and Asian pears. It also offers a variety of peaches, such as nectarine, yellow, white and donut peaches. Rice Fruit Company is headquartered in Gardners, Pa.
