General Info
The newest addition to the EYE-Q team, Dr. Hunter specializes in treating diseases and disorders of the retina. He completed his medical retinal fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania and is currently finishing his vitreo-retinal surgical fellowship at the University of California, Davis. Dr. Hunter received his undergraduate degree from The Johns Hopkins University and stayed in Baltimore for medical school and residency. Afterwards, Dr. Hunter was awarded the prestigious clinician-scientist “K Award” from the National Institutes of Health (N.I.H.) and studied causes and treatments of age-related macular degeneration. Simultaneously, Dr. Hunter learned medical retina under fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania with two of the most prolific retina experts in the field. After finishing his fellowship and N.I.H. grant, Dr. Hunter moved to California for the acclaimed vitreo-retinal surgical fellowship at the University of California, Davis. Dr. Hunter has received numerous professional awards including Departmental and General Honors, the two highest awards presented, by The Johns Hopkins University. Additionally, he has received awards for his presentation at ARVO (the international Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology), the George Frick Award (School of Medicine graduation merit award), multiple best presentation awards for research findings at annual symposiums and Honorary Speaker award. Away from the practice, Dr. Hunter enjoys taking advantage of our Valley’s many recreational opportunities with his wife and three children. Hiking, biking, swimming, and skiing are just a few of the many outdoors activities the Hunter family enjoys. When he’s not reviewing retina literature, the former English major remains an avid reader of fiction and nonfiction works alike.
