In operation for more than 50 years, Fort Detrick is involved in medical materiel management, global telecommunication, and biomedical research and development. The organization manages the United States Army Medical Research and Materiel Command. It operates National Interagency Biodefense Campus, which conducts scientific studies on a variety of diseases, such as malaria and cancer. Fort Detrick serves defense, agriculture, homeland security, and health and human services departments in the United States. The organization manages National Cancer Institute at Frederick, which investigates the genetic, molecular, environmental and behavioral factors that contribute to human cancers. Fort Detrick operates a toastmasters club.
