We thrive on the energy that flows between actor and audience, for we know that in this age of electronic media, human contact can be all too rare. We believe that theatre is not only a literary art, but also a popular one ; we draw our inspiration from the fairground and the circus, the music hall and the street. We love to clown wildly in tragedy ; to expose the tragic in comedy ; to ignite the absurd within the profound. We strive to bring great stories to life on our stage. The company was founded on the principle that great theatre should be accessible to all. Our character is rooted in, and defined by, our Free Admission policy. Since our first season in 1997, our theatre has presented nineteen classical plays and three original ones to a combined audience of tens of thousands. We've brought Shakespeare, Chekhov, Ionesco, Euripides, Tennessee Williams and many other classic writers to an eager and loyal audience, one that is still growing. Franklin Stage Company continues to add to the artistic prominence and vibrant cultural identity of the Western Catskills. Our aims for the future include a further commitment to the education and training of young people, and the restoration of our beautiful home, Chapel Hall. As our work proceeds, our one guiding principle remains constant - that the living, breathing art form of theatre should be accessible to all. Currently, Franklin Stage Company is composed of two Artistic Directors, two Administrative Directors, and seven Artistic Associates, in addition to an administrative staff and board of directors. The company's permanent home is Chapel Hall, the majestic Greek Revival building that has dominated the town of Franklin, New York, since 1857.
