they should not be working on cars.

i have an 06 cobalt with the 2.4L and 80k miles. i threw a code for a fuel trim balance issue. i normally work on cars myself but ive had little experience with this particular one and i didnt feel like dealing with it so i thought id let them take a crack at it. they said i needed about $4,000 worth of work done throughout the car (suspenion, steering, etc) along with a $300 fuel system flush to clear the original issue. i said no thanks on the extras and just had them do the flush. after alot of waiting, calling, and confusion, i got the car back. by the time i got it home it was accelerating on its own. i looked under the hood to check the throttle cable when i noticed that a major piece on the intake system had been broken then obviously glued back together. in fact, the glue was still wet! no one had told me about this, all that was said was that a fuel system cleaning was done and the issue should be resolved. i took the car back to have them fix the idle issue and asked the service manager about the broken piece. all that came of that was him bringing me to the technicians bay only to have him confirm that he did break it and it was "no big deal". no compensation, no new part, just a shrug of the shoulders. at that point i felt it was best i cut my losses and leave or go to jail. heres the good part...weeks later, the code comes back! but it gets better...

my brother works at another dealership service center but has access to the same diagnostic databases that summity city does. one day i had him look up the code that i was throwing and what comes up is a technical service bulletin. TSB's describe a common issue that chevy is aware of, the symptoms caused, and instructions on how to correct the issue. the one that came up said quote:

SUBJECT: check engine light on, DTCs p0171, p0300 or p1174 set (perform injector test, replace injectors and reprogram ECM, if necessary)

CONDITION: some customers may comment on the check engine light being illuminated. a scan tool may reveal DTC p0171, p0300 or p1174 set as current or in history.

CAUSE: this condition may be caused by the plugging of one or more of the injector director place orifices which results in a lean condition.

(whole paragraph in bold)CORRECTION: IMPORTANT* this condition cannot be corrected by cleaning the injector(s). the fuel injectors must be replaced and the new calibration files must be installed to ensure a complete repair. failure to perform both repairs will result in the customer returning with the same condition.

enough said!!!!! i ended up replacing the injectors myself for under $200 and the issue hasnt been back since. its ALMOST comical.

I took my car to Summit City Service Center because I thought the car was leaking coolant. They called me to tell me my water pump and timing gasket was leaking. The estimated price was approx. $700. I immediately knew this price was outrageous, so I called another mechanic to get a quote. The next quote was $350 without looking at the van. I called Summit City and told them not to do anything to it. When I picked up my car they charged $56 just to look at it!!! The next day I took my car to the other mechanic and they looked for a coolant leak. They COULD NOT FIND a leak any where. In conclusion, Summit City tried to take my money for something that was not wrong with my vehicle just because I said I thought I had a coolant leak. Not only did they try to charge me for something that was not needed but they also tried to charged me double!
