Stopped in and found a reasonably priced, great shape Toyota in their used department. This was on a Monday. Made the deposit, and part of that agreement was a promise made by the salesman it would be wrapped up and delivered by Friday the same week. He indicated a short service check was necessary.

I HAD to have a vehicle in order to work a job which required travel. I made this very clear, probably 10 times.

Thursday comes along, and I'm expecting to do a purchase agreement and finish things up. "We're not quite ready, but soon. They want to make sure it's perfect." The salesman stated.

Thankfully, I made a buffer timewise expecting a hiccup. Monday was my first day. Friday, same story. Promise now broken. Vehicle drove great, not sure why it's taking so long.

I said "This needs to be finished tomorrow, or the deal is off. You promised today." I got more excuses.

"It'll be tomorrow, for sure. Just get in before 3 when we close." He said

So I get there at 1 on Saturday.

Another salesman "Oh, he's off today. You'll need to come back Monday, and we'll get you taken care of."
At this point, my blood is boiling. They are now screwing with my income and well being of my family. Nothing like not being able to work your first day on the job. I was already imagining how poorly my new boss would think of me.

I'd made up my mind to end the situation.

I found another car elsewhere and purchased the same day.

The following week, the salesman starts blowing my phone up on Wednesday. "Ok, we're ready now, when can you come in and finish the paperwork?"

I reiterated our agreement.

"Ummm, well,...this isn't our fault." He said.

"This is business. You didn't keep your end of the bargain. I want my $500 deposit back."

"That's non-refundable, we can't give it back." He said.

I went to my bank and charged the sale back on my card. And got it with no problem.

They lied multiple times. Never again. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.

Multiple problems with a low mileage 20k car I had just bight from here. They never return my calls. Showed up incredibly early and they made me wait till right when I had to go to work or get a full point instead of half. The first time Ivery ever been late to work. Borderline duress if not fully duress. These guys are big con men. They tried to sell me a car with a huge dent in it and a car with a driver seat that didn't work. Wouldn't go there again. A day doesn't go by where I don't wish this place would go out of business for what they did to me

I came to Don Ayres Honda to possibly purchase a CR-V for my wife. At first, everyone was very helpful. The sales agent did a great job explaining all the features of the vehicle. We returned on a few separate occasions to test drive, as we were also looking at the RAV4 and were in the process of comparing the two.

Through Internet research, I located a dealership 3 hours away in Illinois that priced out the CR-V for a super deal and they would include a handful of accessories that my wife wanted such as all season-floor mats, mud guards, door edge guards, etc. Armed with this information, we went to Don Ayers to see if they would match the deal.

The offer that Don Ayers produced for the car was reasonable, but still thousands off from the offer of the other dealership. We filled them in on the price we had been quoted, but they saw no possible way to match it. The salesman told us they match any deal guaranteed, and if they can't match they pay $100. However, he said this had only been paid out once in the dealership's history. I invited him to speak with his manager about matching the price, gave him my cell phone number, and walked out of the dealership (because that's what you're supposed to do, right?).

Our salesperson called us a few days later to let us know there was no way they could match the price. The Don Ayers salesperson was sure the price we were quoted was in error. I re-read the price to them and stated what accessories and options were included. I clarified that the price included the accessories and did not include tax or title. They concluded that there was no way they could beat it because it was "unreasonable." I asked about the $100, and they said if we actually purchase the car in Illinois, bring the invoice in and we could get the $100.

We did end up purchasing in Illinois, and a few days later came to Don Ayers to claim the $100. The sales manager refused to give out the $100. He falsely claimed that he would have been able to match the price. He claimed that we had misrepresented the actual bottom line of the quote, and that was the reason he refused to match. This was demonstratively false, as we had the quote from Illinois in writing and had emailed a copy of it to the salesperson at the beginning of all this. He also claimed that the accessory package on our vehicle is not Honda certified and is cheap compared to what he would have installed, which is also false.

I did not want to drive three hours (one direction) to purchase a car, but I did in order to save a few thousand dollars. I did so because Don Ayers forced my hand and would not work with me. They did not even provide a counter-offer, not once. If they had come even close, I would have considered buying with them to avoid the long trek. The $100 guarantee was offered up by the salesperson. I didn't even know about it until he mentioned it. Of course, when I tried to collect, the sales manager had the nerve to tell me I could have bought the car here in town for that price, which is a complete lie.

Although this is the only Honda dealer in the area, with the availability of the Internet I encourage anyone interested in a Honda to e-mail around and see what other dealerships will do for you, as this experience with Don Ayers leads me to believe they are either completely dishonest or simply incompetent.
