My wife and I travel twice a year to Texas and North Carolina. We stay in motels, and we visit restaurants that are local or belong to a chain not located in our hometown.

We visited the Bob Evans Restaurant at 5135 Meijer Rd, Fort Wayne, IN, during such a trip. The restaurant looks like a well-lighted coffee shop with a mix of booths and tables. The layout was spacious and clean. There were no rocking chairs or jam for sale. Most servers were wearing Christmas sweaters with their black pants.

We were seated quickly and quickly greeted by our waitress, Erika B. She was friendly, polite, and personable. She chatted a little about how we were and how our trip was going, while scanning the room to watch her other customers. Since we only experience Bob Evans Restaurants while traveling, she let us get reacquainted with the menu. I asked her about the Pot Roast Hash Breakfast. She described it and recommended it. I had it and enjoyed it. My wife had the Rise and Shine Breakfast and enjoyed it. Erika kept our drinks filled and checked back after our orders had been delivered.

I’d revisit this Bob Evans again if traveling through Fort Wayne.

We were checked out quickly, but I appeared to confuse the young cashier. When I use my AARP Credit Card, I always show my military-retired card as proof of identity. My AARP Credit Card says, “See military ID.” The cashier glanced at my ID card and my credit card. She handed my ID card back immediately and stammered, “We don’t give discounts.” I felt embarrassed and explained that I was showing identification.

Middle of the road fare

The food is usually good, but the service is uneven, and I've always found this chain to be overpriced for what you get. Low carb options have pretty much disappeared from the menu, unless you go the bacon and eggs route.
