General Info
The Lee County Health Department, located in fort Madison, Iowa, protects health, prevents disease, and promotes the health and well-being for all persons in Lee County. Our focus is on the population as a whole, and we conduct our activities through a network of public health professionals throughout the community. Public health nurses make home visits to families with communicable diseases; environmental health specialists ensure safe food, water, and housing; and all work with community coalitions to advocate for public policies to protect and improve health. Home Care A priority of Lee County Health Department is to assist persons to remain in their own homes in a safe and healthy environment. The following services are provided in the comfort and familiarity of a person's home. Skilled Nursing, Home Health Aides, and Homemakers are available through a variety of payment sources. A Registered Nurse visits with individuals to determine what is right for each person. Payment may be available through Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance and private pay. A sliding fee scale is available to assist with private payment. Personal care and homemaking services are funded in part with funds from Southeast Iowa Area Agency on Aging, Inc. Hospice Philosophy & Mission Hospice is a Medicare certified program of Lee County Health Department. Hospice provides care and support to the terminally ill and their families in their homes, assisted living facilities, and in long term facilities. The mission of Hospice is to enhance the ill person's quality of life by alleviating pain and other symptoms and by providing physical, emotional, and spiritual support to patients and families. Hospice care may be provided to people of all ages and with any type of life-limiting illness. Lee County Health Department's Community Health program encompasses many initiatives.
