Community Physical Therapy was founded in 1981 based out of a humble 450 square foot office in Middle Village Queens. Founded with the mission of helping people overcome pain and disability through clinical expertise and personal attention CPT has flourished, expanding its services to locations in Queens, Brooklyn and Manhattan. Consistent with our philosophy of "lifelong learning" all of our therapists regularly attend continuing education seminars to ensure that you receive the most effective treatment possible. Dr. Sofer has over 45 years of clinical experience in the field of Physical Therapy. Her dedication to her profession and practice has established her as one of New York's most revered and respected clinicians. Presently, she is completing her PhD in health sciences while maintaining her clinical practice at CPT and her positions as a full time assistant professor in the Touro College Physical Therapy program and a part-time assistant professor at SUNY Downstate. She has been a featured presenter at numerous national and international conferences and has authored a chapter in a widely used textbook entitled "Musculoskeletal Essentials." Dr. Sofer received her Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Therapy from Columbia University in 1964 and went on to earn her Master of Arts and Doctor of Physical Therapy degrees from Touro College. She earned her Board Certification as an Orthopedic Clinical Specialist in 1987. With her vast experience and knowledge Dr. Sofer continues to be fascinated by the human body's resilience in recovery from injury and takes joy in sharing her knowledge with patients and students alike. David Sofer's reputation for clinical excellence and dedication to the Physical Therapy profession have established him as a prominent and respected member of New York's Physical Therapy community. His commitment to his patients and profession go beyond the clinic. David is the Chapter Director of the Brooklyn/Staten Island District of the New York Physical Therapy Association, an adjunct assistant professor in the SUNY Downstate Physical Therapy Program, a leading advocate for patients' rights and an active member of the Alliance of Independent Physical Therapists and the Council of Licensed Physiotherapists. David graduated from the University at Buffalo Physical Therapy Program in 2000. Since then he has taken numerous advanced clinical courses and is currently earning his Doctorate in Physical Therapy through the Evidence in Motion educational institution. Helen McCarthy Reep's distinguished career began in 1982 when she earned her Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from Downstate Medical Center. During her career she has worked in a variety of settings throughout the country. She has treated professional athletes and dancers in San Diego and Beverly Hills, California and was the Director of Orthopedic Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation in Sacrsdale, New York. Currently she uses her vast knowledge and experience as the Manager and Clinical Director of Community Physical Therapy's corporate client, Citigroup. When first meeting Andrew Maynard-Reid you can't help but feel welcomed by his big smile and upbeat attitude. Shortly thereafter you will recognize his keen skill and expertise in orthopedic rehabilitation. Andrew joined Community Physical Therapy in 2003. He has particular interest in the fields of manual therapy and sports rehab and is proficient in treating patients of all ages. A graduate of Andrews University, he earned his Master of Science in Physical Therapy in 2000. Andrew shares his knowledge with future PT's by volunteering his time as an assistant clinical instructor to Physical Therapy students from numerous local universities. A true renaissance man, outside of the office, Andrew is an accomplished photographer.
