Nancy was friendly and accommodating when we arrived. While the room was quite modest, it was clean, and she made sure we were comfortable. She charged $95.00 for the round-trip shuttle to the drop-off point, "Winding Stair Gap," (about 50 miles from the hotel) and the pick-up point, which was intended to be Fontana Dam (about 5 miles from the hotel). I thought this was a bit high, but the room was only $50.00 a night, so I didn't mind. She also told me to call her whenever we were done with the hike.

Consequently, my son and I ended the hike early and called for our pick-up about 35 miles away. When I called Nancy, she arranged for a pickup for us immediately. However, when I arrived back at the hotel to pay for my next night's stay, she informed me that I owed $80.00 additional since I called for a pick up so far away. Of course, I was never told of any additional charge before, and I had no reason to expect so.

My advice to hikers: The hotel only has three rooms, and the $50.00 a night charge is reasonable. However, watch for gouging on the shuttle service.
