- Dental CareDid you know that you can add two to four years to your pet's life with proper dental care?
- VaccinationVaccinations are not only safe and effective; they are an important and fundamental piece of your pet's preventative healthcare plan. Advances in veterinary immunology have made diseases that once were relatively common and fatal to pets easily preventable. There are also vaccines—such as for rabies and other zoonotic diseases—that help protect your family from very dangerous and difficult to treat illnesses. Additionally, with each passing year, veterinary science is improving on existent vaccines as well as increasing our ability to prevent an even wider array of contagious diseases.

- Behavioral CounselingCanyon Pet Hospital's mission is to be the premier veterinary hospital in Northern Arizona by providing quality, progressive veterinary medicine that meets all the needs of our clients and their pets. We offer a wide range of preventative medical services as well as acupuncture, pain assessments, extensive surgeries, advanced diagnostics, emergency and critical care services, behavioral counseling, and much more.
- Nutritional CounselingWe all know that there are two things that will lead to weight loss most effectively. One is the limiting of calorie intake and we can help plan that for your pet. It also includes increasing exercise and we can help with that as well. As your pet loses weight, we can also help to tone the body and strengthen the core muscles which may have lost tone during their period of lower activity. We hope to not only have successful weight loss but also have the healthiest patient possible when the goal weight is reached.
- Comprehensive ExaminationThe basis of any preventative medicine regimen is regular wellness exams. Canyon Pet Hospital recommends a complete physical examination at least once a year, but more frequent exams are encouraged.
- Parasites Treatment and ControlRadiographs (X-rays) are extremely helpful for diagnosing and monitoring many medical and surgical conditions. X-rays are useful in examining your pet's bones, lungs, heart, abdomen, oral cavity and other areas of the body. An X-ray can spot a fractured bone, detect tumors, help with the diagnosis of heartworm disease or locate an obstruction or foreign body in your pet's intestine or stomach. When used in conjunction with other diagnostic procedures like ultrasound, X-rays can accurately diagnose problems, making treatment faster and easier for your pet and your veterinarian.

- Arthritis TreatmentPhysical rehabilitation can be very helpful for patients who are suffering from arthritis pain whether early or late in the disease. The goals of physical rehab are to increase mobility of the joints, strengthen muscles that support the joints, and lose weight. In doing these things the pain of arthritis will be diminished. This type of program would turn into a maintenance type of treatment since arthritis does not ever go away. Each patient will likely continue to come for therapy on a regular basis for the rest of their lives in order to keep as functional and comfortable as possible. The time in between visits would depend entirely on the patient's progress and needs over time.
- Hip Dysplasia TreatmentCanyon Pet Hospital recognizes that there are a number of noninvasive, alternative therapies that can have profoundly beneficial effects on your pet’s health and well-being. In particular, acupuncture has been shown to enhance the effectiveness of traditional therapies as well as provide relief to a number of chronic conditions. For example, acupuncture is particularly useful for treating musculoskeletal pain associated with hip dysplasia, arthritis, and over-exertion, among others.
- Obesity TreatmentStudies reveal that half of the dogs and cats found in American homes are overweight or obese, translating to over 85 million. Pet obesity has become a major health concern across the nation, forcing us to rethink what we throw into Fido’s bowl or pass under the table.
- Diabetes Treatment
- Thyroid Disease Treatment
- Heart Disease TreatmentYet, what we often don’t think about are the costs associated with this soaring trend. Not only are there diseases and conditions caused by obesity, but also many others that are greatly exacerbated by the extra pounds. And the increase in costs can be alarming. In fact, treating pets with diabetes, heart disease or ligament tears that are caused by weakened joints can cost you thousands in veterinary fees. According to Petplan, pet insurance claims in 2011 for heart disease increased by 32 percent, diabetes by 253 percent and arthritis by a whopping 348 percent.
- Kidney Disease TreatmentBehavior problems are the number one reason that owners give up a pet. Canyon Pet Hospital offers behavior counseling for many of your pet's problems including inappropriate urination or defecation, aggression, separation anxiety, inappropriate chewing and barking, introduction of new pets into the household and household pets that are in conflict with one another. Oftentimes a behavior problem, such as inappropriate voiding, can be linked to a medical issue (cystitis, bladder stones, and kidney disease). Our veterinarians help you recognize, validate and categorize behavior problems. We work closely with you in developing a specific plan to help eliminate your pet's unwanted behavior. If our veterinarians and technical staff members cannot help with your pet's behavior problem, we can refer you to a board-certified animal behaviorist.
- Cancer TreatmentA diagnosis of cancer can be frightening. However, most pets respond extremely well to cancer treatments, which include tumor removal surgery and chemotherapy. Canyon Pet Hospital offers chemotherapy for both cats and dogs. Pets do not experience the same side effects from chemotherapy that humans do, and often go on to lead long and healthy lives after their cancer is gone. We can also perform a range of mass/tumor removal surgeries or refer you to the appropriate specialist for complicated oncology surgeries.
- Wound and Fracture CareOrthopedic surgeries include fracture repair with bone plates, screws and pins, as well as tightrope and extracapsular stabilization for ruptured cruciates, and more.
- Veterinary SurgeryStaffed by a team of highly trained veterinarians and experienced veterinary technicians, we are proud of the quality of surgical care we provide and the wide range of surgical procedures we offer. Beyond spay and neuter surgeries, Canyon Pet Hospital performs an array of orthopedic and soft tissue surgeries.
- Laser SurgeryCanyon Pet Hospital is able to offer laser surgery for a number of surgical procedures such as spays and neuters, mass removals and more. Laser surgery minimizes bleeding, reduces pain and swelling and speeds healing. When your pet undergoes laser surgery, he or she recovers faster and faces less post-operative pain. Laser surgery also is more precise and greatly reduces the risk of infection.

- Laboratory ServicesCanyon Pet Hospital has a complete in-house laboratory that allows us to perform urinalysis, parasite identification, complete chemistry profiles, clotting profiles, and more. In some cases, we can receive results within minutes.

- MicrochippingEach year, millions of pets go missing and many don't make it back home. Microchipping your pet is a safe, simple and effective way to prevent this tragedy. About the size of a grain of rice, identification microchips are encoded with your pet's vital information and implanted beneath your pet's skin, usually between the shoulder blades.

- Senior Pet CareYour senior pet may have spent winters in the past enjoying the brisk temperatures and playing as the snow falls. But as they age, recognize that they aren't as strong as they once were. This doesn’t mean they can't be outside and play, just be conscientious of time and make sure they have plenty of warm blankets and treats when they come indoors.
