When you're in trouble and need emergency assistance with your vehicle, these are your mechanics. I broke my truck good while off-road and limped into Flagstaff from deep in the backcountry at 22mph. I'm an old guy who drew one of only five bowhunting tags for pronghorn in GMU11M (the area around Flagstaff) and here I am on opening day looking for someone to work on my truck. Juan Zavala tells me to bring straight in and then tag-teams my truck with Oscar Araiza and Robert McKenzie, getting my truck repaired in only 2 hours. I'm on the road just after 10am and on the hunt. These guys understood how rare my tag was and went above & beyond to get me back in the field...I will never forget it. BrakeMasters sets the customer care bar so high, other auto shops need to charter a plane just to see it.

I see some negative reviews here but I had the complete opposite experience. I was driving an old rented VW eurovan around the southwest with the family and we ran into air conditioning problems. It was over a hundred degrees out and we had to drive back to to California and it was a Saturday and most places were closed. I went to Brake Masters and dealt with Juan Zavala who totally saved us. The shop was busy but he took time out to quickly fix the problem and load us up with Freon. He couldn't have been nicer and as a father of four he completely understood the predicament i was in. Had a great experience there.

If you're travelling to or from the Grand Canyon and run into car trouble go to Brake Masters and see Juan. Hopefully, he'll save you like he saved me.

Crooks!

I cannot believe this place!!! I can't even give them a star! I just had a friend in Flagstaff get talked into a "needed" timing belt. Timing belt was replaced and the first time she drives her car it overheats and the head twists up and now back in the shop for a new head! AND THEY ARE CHARGING HER!!! BEWARE don't use them unless you like throwing money away! Super angry even as an innocent bystander. I also had my brakes fixed there ONCE! Got a quote of $189, came back to a $440 dollar bill and a broken ABS sensor, which they wanted to charge me for, I don't think so. I would not even pull my vehicle out of their shop until they fixed it (and for free). They are the antithesis of mechanical professionalism!

New management....

These guys care about your vehicle. Not your wallet. Give it a try for yourself. I'm new in flagstaff and its nice to be able to find honest mechanics.

Should be less than one star. The advertised pricing is inaccurate - it will keep going up. Do some looking around online reviews (here, Yahoo, Yelp) before you make the mistake of going into this place. You can't trust them.

They're terrible. I went in when they were "too busy" to do an oil change (they had a good deal coupon), but as soon as I said I was having antifreeze trouble he dropped all his other customers and came out to my car. He told me I had to replace my hoses and it would cost from $500-$600.

I went home and my roommate's dad happened to be there. He looked at my car and we fixed my car in 30 minutes for about $40.

They want you to go elsewhere! I will from now on (and so should you).

Over the last few years, I’ve been going to the Flagstaff Brake Masters for my oil change and tire rotation. I’ve been using one of their “rebate” coupons that regularly fill up our mailbox along with other junkmail. Today at check out I’ve been bluntly told (apparently by owner’s request) that I SHOULD NOT BRING my car in anymore because they are losing money by only doing an oil change/tire rotation. Not sure why they advertize their oil change service if they are only willing to do so if you have to spend some extra $$$$ on other repairs, and the like. So, Flagstaff Brake Masters, no big deal. I promise I WILL NOT take my car in anymore. And neither will my friends, coworkers, and hopefully a few of this review readers wanting an oil change (or other work). After all, this town is full of other lube shops, and competent mechanics.

LIARS AND CHEATS!

I am a female (don't know cars) and recently had grinding in my rear brakes. I took my car to Midas and received a quote of about $600 for pads/rotors and labor. I took it to Brake Masters and they proceeded to tell me that I needed brakes/pads/calipers and an axle reset..an axle reset..what even is an axle reset?? They quoted me $1300. Really?? I took the car to the dealer and the pads and rotors replaced for $355. LIARS AND CHEATS...and since then I've heard more stories of them taking advantage of unsuspecting women.

JUST RIGHT!

I had brake work done there 3yrs ago and havent had any problems with the work they've done since. They gave me a free oil change because of the money I spent there. Seemed to be very knowledgeable and nice.

Full Of Crap

I took my friend to Break Masters of Flagstaff on Milton Rd. The guy said the part she needed would take 2 days to come in. It took 4 days, we had to call them, and the guy said, "yeah, we've been having issues with our deliveries." Then, they called and said if we got the car in but 1:30 it would be done by 4 pm, Well, she had already put down a non-refundable deposit... So, we dropped the car off, this was on Saturday, and the guy said, "Technically we close at 4, but we'll stay and get this done." By 4pm there was no call from them. We called, there was no answer. We went by to see if anyone was there... The car was in the garage, hood up, parts all over the place, no indication they had any intention of staying to complete the work, as the shop was locked up, lights out. Eveything they said was basically a lie. They are full of crap and the service is crap. I will not recommend them ever to anyone.

Break Masters-- Bad service travels quickly, especially in a small town...

I wouldn't even give this business 1 star, but you have to put something in order to post the review.

Unprofessional

I can't comment on their service, because I didn't get that far. We went in to have them look at our brakes, and to get a quite. We walked in, waited for about 5 minutes until someone finally came to the counter. We told them what was wrong with our brakes and asked the man working what he thought it was. We asked him a two part question (not a yes or no question) and with glazed over eyes and an unexpressive face said, "yeah that's what it is". All we could say was, "What...that didn't answer our question." We then asked, "Well what do you do as far as quotes, do you charge a fee to look at it and see what's wrong, or do you call us before you work on it." And he said, "Yeah that's what we do." WHAT??? After that he said that they had actually been closed for 20 minutes so we would have to come back in the morning to drop off our car (but their OPEN sign was still lit up). To say the least we didn't drive back the next morning. They were very unprofessional and weren't helpful at all.
