I installed all new white oak floor with custom stain in July 2007 over 2200 square ft condo. Within 30 days the entire floor had cupped. Griffith response was that it would likely correct itself by winter, and if not, they would refinish in 6 months. There was a moisture problem in the crawlspace and Griffith had either NOT measured the humindity prior to their install, which is clearly a violation of national flooring standards, or had measured it and ignored it. Standards require this to be measured, recorded, and humidity differences in subfloor and flooring to be corrected within several % points PRIOR to install. I was NOT NOTIFIED of any discrepancy and subsequently my entire floor had a cupping problem. I eventually spent several hundred dollars with flooring inspectors, and several thousands in correcting the crawl space problem, without Griffith admitting to any error on their part.
Living in a brand new condo with all belongings in place and tolerating another sanding and refinishing on site was not an option for me, given the new floor was improperly installed from the onset.
I would not recommend Griffith for any new floor installation of any type. They violated the standards of their national business organization and then denied their mistake.
The cupping source in this condo is a wet crawlspace. The owner had it inspected 2 times prior to and 1 time after our completion. Her floor inspector noticed moisture spots on the cinder block foundation. This condition, a wet crawlspace is out of our control hence not our responsibility. We did offer 2 non cost options to aid in the situation. This job has not been paid for.
