In the early 1980s, the St. Louis Youth Soccer Association (SLYSA) approached Anheuser-Busch, Inc. with an idea for an athletic facility that would provide thousands of youth from the St. Louis area with a place to play and learn soccer, the most popular sport in the world. With the support of Anheuser-Busch and numerous other corporations and businesses in the St. Louis area, the St. Louis Soccer Park became a reality in 1982. In recent years, the Anheuser-Busch Center has expanded its meeting facilities and upgraded the playing surfaces on its main stadium field and its two artificial turf fields. The center is also the headquarters of St. Louis Soccer Club (formerly Busch Soccer Club). The club fields teams for players of all ages. The club's teams have won more state championships and regional playoff berths than any other amateur club in the country during the last 30 years. St. Louis/Busch Soccer Club teams have won 13 national championships, the latest being the under-18 boys in 2004.
