Forty years ago, movie theaters each had a single screen, and much of the experience of attending them was the unique ambience of each building. Multiplexes now are like malls, and entering them is like going though a cattle chute. The Cameo is an exception. There are only two screens, with one of the auditoriums being quite small. The decor is art deco. Of course, the selection of films is limited. Though it is advertised as an art house, about half of the films shown there are Hollywood productions that also show in other venues in town. Because of the atmosphere, though, when there is a choice between seeing a film at the Cameo or at another theater, I go to the Cameo
