It has been very frustrating for me and my disabled daughter to deal with the leadership and workers involved in their residential program. By residential I mean my daughter has been living there for about 1 1/2 years. Problems involved questionable use of my daughter's food stamp money so I took over control of her food stamp card. Her food disappearing , personal items I bought for her ,silver wear, dishes,cups etc gone with no explanation. I bought locks and containers to try to cut done on the losses. I bought a lock and lock box for her spending money which seemed difficult for the staff to monitor accurately. The problems continued with total disregard to her behavioral plan resulting in multiple bruising from day one until today during restraining. Her bed was removed from her room when she would not go to an appointment. Their policy is if a client did not take a medication on time they were denied access to their medications until the next dose 12 hours later. My daughter is on several meds for seizures! When I tried to intervene on my daughter's behalf (I am an RN) I was told that was Ohana's policy ! It took a doctor's order to reassure that my daughter would recieve her medication. I told the 2 co owners who created that policy " You can't punish a client by withholding ttheir medications. Their reply was "That is our policy". I said "that is a bad policy " and explained that withholding the clients meds could result in severe medical consequences and injury to the client. I could go on with more examples but I do want to caution anyone using The Ohana Support Service out of Ewa Beach for their loved one please visit frequently, challenge their behavioral practices , monitor food and money. If your loved one does not have a way of communicating with you remember this review .
