General Info
Raised in Centralia, Washington, Dr. McCourt was brought up to be a concert and jazz trombonist, yet yielded to his desires to adventure in his early twenties. He did everything from being a lift operator in Vail, Colorado to joining the Army and serving as both an Airborne Artilleryman and a trombonist for the 82nd Airborne Band. After this stint, he returned and finished undergraduate training in foreign language and outdoor recreation and then worked in the high mountain desert teaching adolescents wilderness survival skills. It was during this time that he became interested in medicine. In medical school he excelled academically and was a presidential scholar. He graduated cum laude and did his residency training at one of the most highly regarded foot and ankle residencies in the country: Kaiser San Francisco. Dr. McCourt is board certified in Foot Surgery and Reconstructive Rearfoot Ankle Surgery by the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery, a fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and an associate of the American Academy of Podiatric Sports Medicine. He has lectured locally and nationally, including the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons annual scientific meeting, garnering an honorable mention for new research. He has published peer-reviewed articles with topics including ankle arthroscopy, total ankle joint replacement and cement spacers for large segmental bone defects. Dr. McCourt enjoys participating in endurance sports, especially cycling and running. In medical school and through residency he would do at least a century ride (100 miles) once per year, with the longest being a double metric century (200km), and he and dabbled in triathalons.

Provided by Doctor.comI came in as a flatfooted runner and Dr. McCourt took so much time to figure out the best options for me to keep me training. He was even able to keep me in my race this weekend!
