Elon University, a private organization, offers a range of academic and enrichment programs. The university has been in operation since 1889 and spreads across an area of more than 550 acres. It enrolls over 4,900 undergraduate and nearly 600 graduate students. The university employs a staff of up to 340 full-time people. It also operates a variety of master s and doctoral programs. Elon University governs the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business and the School of Communications. The university provides opportunities for several sports activities, such as golf, basketball, volleyball and football. It maintains the Writing Center and provides online educational resources for students. The university offers courses in art, science and law. Elon University is a member of Project Pericles.
