- NeurologyHello. My name is Charles R. Hillenbrand, M.D. I am a psychiatrist certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Inc. I am honored to have been named a Distinguished Life Fellow in the American Psychiatric Association. I specialize in treating patients over age 18 with complicated psychiatric illnesses who have not had good luck achieving remission. I use an eclectic approach that combines: listening to the patient; obtaining and reviewing as much information as is available; and, formulating diagnoses that include the primary psychiatric disorder and any other illnesses present. After all the diagnoses are compiled, any testing that may be required will be obtained. Treatment then occurs of the medical or other psychiatric illnesses that may be complicating the primary diagnosis. The primary psychiatric illness is treated by the use of psychiatric and other medications, somatic treatments, counseling, and social interventions. My patients present a wide variety of illnesses at my office including: 1. Mood Disorders: Major Depression, Bipolar Disorder, and other mood disorders. 2. Anxiety disorders: Generalized Anxiety, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Panic Disorder, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, and other anxiety disorders. 3. Sleep Disorders: Restless Legs, Periodic Limb Movements, Central and Peripheral Apnea, and other sleep disorders. 4. Mental Disorders due to and/or complicating a general medical condition: such as thyroid and other hormonal problems, epilepsy, closed head injury, multiple sclerosis, chronic pain, headache, and other disorders. 5. Cognitive disorders: Delirium, Early Dementia, and other cognitive disorders. 6. ADHD and/or other learning disorders. 7. Substance-induced disorders: Cannabis Psychosis and other disorders related to substance use or abuse. 8. Grief, adjusting to cancer and chronic illness, and acute stress.
