Elgin Public Works Department is responsible for providing various basic public services that contribute to the overall community development. The department offers various services, including street, sewer and sidewalk maintenance; solid waste and recycling; traffic signals, lights and traffic signs installation; garbage and leaf collection; bridge and dam maintenance. It also provides services, such as parks and cemetery maintenance, capital improvement projects, water service installation and repairs, tree trimming, and maintenance of parking lots and decks. The department maintains more than 300 miles of street and sewer located within the city limits. Its engineering division provides plan review, permitting and inspection services for a variety of projects to ensure conformance with city standards and specifications.
