I can remember as far back as 1970 my dad taking me to the Thrifty drug store located in the El Monte mall to buy a scoop of my favorite ice cream. A lot has changed since then but One Thing Remains the Same It's the Great Taste of Thrifty's Ice Cream. I can remember some of my favorites rainbow sherbet, cherry vanilla, chocolate malted crunch, Rocky Road and chocolate chip. If you are new to California I highly recommend you had straight to Rite Aid and try a scoop of one of the many great flavors the Thrifty Ice Cream company has developed over the years. It may not be $0.05 a scoop anymore but the taste is priceless, enjoy.
BEST ICE CREAM THERE IS! Found in Rite Aid in California / Water and Ice (or other stores that deal mostly in ice and water) in Phoenix, AZ / rumor has it that up north in Washington state, Costco sometime has it.
Always have been a crazy fan of the pistachio nuts ice cream, Thrifty is my favorite over all. include Haagen Dazs but a couple days ago, i get two 0f the 1.5Qt, one for my work and one for myself and between the two only have 13 pistachio nuts, very disappointed, Hope next time can see the nuts and not only ice cream.
My favorite is the black cherry, but like the other reviewer, sometimes I will find but one piece of cherry in the whole container. I would pay more for the ice cream if it looked and contained as much cherry as is shown on the picture in the container. I wish I could find someone to resolve this.
I love and grew up on thrifty ice cream! Just last week after the ice cream delivery, I bought chocolate brownie. I bought another one a few days after the next delivery to find no brownie pieces in the whole quart. I think I'm starting to see why the much elderly crowd her first then handed version than buying a quart out of the freezer.
Best ice cream ever, but you can't get it anywhere except CA...
so not fair,...
somebody please help me figure out how to get some on the east coast by ordering online.
