Special Education Department of the Imperial County Office of Education provides educational programs to students with physical and learning disabilities ages from birth to 22. The department operates self-contained schools, the Imperial Valley Center for Exceptional Children, and special day classes in various schools throughout Imperial County in California. The school s academic curriculum includes vision orientation and mobility, functional academics, communication skills, refinement of motor skills and social and emotional development. It provides consultation regarding communication and hearing disorders, and conducts initial and triennial assessments. The department offers speech and language therapies to children with hearing impairments, and also provides art and music therapies. Special Education Department is located in El Centro, Calif.
