emergency room is horrible. spent 3 hours in there and all they did was clean the cut on my husbands head. the room cleared out and refilled and they still didn't come and put the staples in my husbands head and started taking care of the new people instead of just getting us out of there. so we walked out.

they are unprofessional, the nurses are not cooperative. They do not care if you or your child is sick!! I would never recommend them to anyone!

My mother has been hospitalized at JFK twice in less than a month. Both times her care left much to be desired. Contact numbers for family not documented on her chart. There was a lack of communication with family regarding her discharge arrangement. Social worker and discharge planner were rude. On second admission staff remained rude. Medications were not given as ordered with staff being unaware until family caught the omission. Very poor accountability on multiple levels- unit staff, social workers, management. The focus was how soon can she be discharged. A disgrace to healthcare in the hospital setting. FYI, I am a hospital experienced RN saying this!

DO NOT COME HERE if you want a relaxing birth experience and recovery. The nurse there while I was getting my epidural was so cold and I actually cried and I'm not a crier. Moments after delivering my child I started to hemorrhage and no nurses were to be found. They were outside in the halls laughing and I could hear them from my room. My doctor had to scream "can I get some help here!" In order for them to pay attention to their job. Of all the nurses that came in an out during recovery, only one took really good care of me. Constantly checked my scars to see how they were and actually held my hand when I was in pain while getting examined. I tried to switch to St. Peter's hospital before giving birth because of all the bad reviews but no doctor would see me so late in the pregnancy. I'm definitely not going there for any other treatment.

The staff in the Brain Trauma Unit are great. They did a wonderful job on my son. However, don't expect to get in touch with Dr. Greenwald who runs the BTU. After a half dozen call to his office with no returns nor any replies to our E-mails I would rate him a zero for availability. Unless you key-hole him in the corridor good luck getting any kind of information from his office. We were suppose to make an appointment for a follow-up , guess what NO REPLY to out phone calls. If you are in need of Rehab I would look elsewhere.

JFK should find another Dr. to run the Brain Trauma Unit!

Please be careful and double-c...

Please be careful and double-check everything Doctors do or ask you to do. It may hurt a Doctors ego to look up something on the internet in their sight but believe me, they will not treat your loved ones better or worse because of it.

I am glad for all the reviews in here praising the Doctors and the Hospitals. I am glad you got good service. Here is my Story.

I took my son (3 and half year old) running a temperature of 105 consistently for an hour (yes, I gave him fever reducer and placed cold towels on his neck and forehead.)

They took an X-ray - diagnosed Pneumonia

medication - Antibiotics for Adults ( I forget the name) that made him poop severely for two days

Inhaler for adult Asthma patients

Two days later our Pediatrician retrieved the X-ray from JFK and saw no signs of Pneumonia.

Also there was no need for an inhaler

He just had a bad case of ear infection. This Doctor looked into his ears - not sure what she was looking at but apparently did not see the infection.

Thankfully my Son is OK.

I wanted to sue the Hospital and the Doctor but no Lawyer would touch the case as my Son is OK (which is a shame)

I wanted to pursue the case myself without an attorney but you need a specialist (in my case an emergency room pediatrician) to sign off that there was mis-diagnosis, which is an out of pocket expense for me.

Bottom line - GOOD NEWS for DOCTORS - Unless there is visible severe injury because of a misdiagnosis the misdiagnosis will go un-punished

If you are a regular Joe parent (read NO MONEY) and your child was mildly harmed you need to suck it up and stay quiet because the red tape will not let you touch the Hospital/Doctor with a 10-foot pole.

Fantastic Care

JFK medical Center treated always treats my entire family with high quality care and most of all respect. We needed to take my daughter in to the emergency room and she was immediately seen in their pediatric ER. The nurses made sure she was comfortable and we were always kept informed of her progress. We are lucky to have this hospital in our community.

8 1/2 hours in the Emergency Room

What an Emergency ROOM??? I entered the hospital with my 84 year old mother, we were visiting relatives and my mother had shortness of breath and signs of heart failure. No chest pains but a very ill woman. I didn't have my mothers prescriptions on me....I know how stupid but I was told that they would call the other hospital to get the prescriptions and have them fax it. The nurse said it wasn't a problem...and wrote it on the chart. They took her blood pressure and it was 193 over 110.....we were moved into the hall and there we sat for 30 minutes until a room was available - finally we got into a room in the Emergency room and it was 45 minutes before anyone looked at her. They monitored her blood pressure and started blood work etc.... We sat for 6 hours and I asked the nurse when she would be getting her insulin? This was around 12:30...the nurse told me she didn't have any prescriptions. I know it was my fault not to have the prescriptions but they did tell me they would call and get them. We live 3 hours from JFK hospital and the nurse suggested I drive home to get them....She never read the chart and told me they wouldn't do it. I insisted on getting the fax number and called the hospital in Cape May got the prescriptions faxed over and with NO HELP from that Rude nurse. We finally got up into a room 8 1/2 hours later....Thank God for the 4th floor Nursing staff they were nothing like the Emergency Room staff. They were kind and very understanding. So NO rating on the Emergency Room but a very good rating for the other hospital staff.

Medical Center

The emergency room needs more help and more caring personnel. They are far to slow when it comes to caring for incoming patients. I am talking about seriously ill people, not someone who walks right into the ER because they cut their finger on a piece of paper.
