Established in 1957, Housing Authority of the City of East Orange owns and operates more than 200 public housing units. It features a finance department that provides general accounting, budgeting and treasury services. The authority also has a purchasing department that is responsible for the procurement of supplies, materials and equipment for the maintenance and general upkeep of facilities. Its purchasing department overseas and administers the process of specifying and awarding contracts for repair and capital improvements. In addition, Housing Authority of the City of East Orange features a housing management department that encourages the residents to participate in efforts to secure buildings.
