The Althea Gibson Early Childhood Education Academy, a part of the East Orange School District, serves students in pre-kindergarten and kindergarten. The school is named after Althea Gibson, the first African-American woman to compete and win at Wimbledon and Forest Hills. It maintains facilities for kindergarten and preschool classes, as well as multipurpose and parent rooms. The Althea Gibson Early Childhood Education Academy consists of various pre-kindergarten, special education and kindergarten classes. The school also maintains play areas for early childhood education classes. It operates literature-based programs that assist children to acquire learning skills in art, math, housekeeping, reading and writing.
