Cozy,Friendly,Yummy and Filling: On Sunday October 8th 2006 while on a short road trip from Richmond to Centerville, Virginia, my brother in law, my husband and I stopped by the Dumfries Road location of Cracker Barrel in Dumfries, Virginia for lunch. My brother in law had the lemon pepper grilled trout, with corn and cole slaw which he thought was excellent. My husband was really hungry so he had the homemade chicken salad (which I tasted and was sooo good) as well as the farm raised catfish fillet (which came with really yummy hush puppies)with freedom(not French) fries and corn and he was quite pleased. I ordered the country fried steak with mashed potatoes and gravy and turnip greens which was surpurb. My hubby and I were jokingly complaining to each other about how fattening the corn muffins and biscuits were while eating every single one. Our waitress was courteous, quick and correct and we compensated her accordingly. Our only real gripes (which is why our rating was good rather than excellent) were that rice was only available one day of the week and not available while we were there and the corn tasted like canned corn.
We stopped at the Cracker Barrel in Dumfries, Va. for dinner on the way home, and of course, they all look the same with the inviting atmosphere. We were seated promptly, and surprisingly, they were not as busy as most stores usually are. However, no one came for at least 15 minutes to see what we wanted to drink, and we had to flag someone down. We were told our server "vanished". Drinks were watered down. Our food took over 40 minuted to get to our table, and it was cold and had to be sent back. The waitstaff were not too friendly and just acted like they did not want to be there that day, and it showed in the service. I have eaten at CBs in Pennsylvania and other states, and have never had such a bad experience. I will just stick to my regular Cracker Barrel in York, PA, since I know even when they are busy, the service is fast and friendly. I will NEVER visit the Dumfries, VA location again.
