      I have never seen such a committed agent in all my insurance career, which is over 32 years. I felt so strong about Steve's work ethics I asked him to place my insurance as well. He is always obtainable and his knowledge of the industry is amazing. He has kept his legacy in the family by teaching his son Jay the insurance world. Together they are terrific. You just don't find good caring agents like this anymore. Their insurance advice should be taken. When I first started my insurance career in 1975, Steve is the one I would call for advice and guidance. He has helped me to become the insurance person I am today.       Benson Thomson Agency, Inc is Morris County's oldest family owned and operated independent insurance agency. We have been serving northern New Jersey since 1921. We represent nationally recognized insurance carriers known for the strength and financial security to give you confidence when protecting your assets. Samuel Gibson our founder created a real-estate and insurance agency business in 1921 in Dover, New Jersey. Sam was very active and involved in the community. Years past and in 1948 the family business was sold to Oscar W. Benson who continued to expand the Agency. In 1950 the business was growing and Stephen Thomson joined the Agency working with Oscar Benson, as the surrounding communities expanded in and around Dover. With continued growth in 1957 a new location was needed for the business and they moved from their Blackwell Street location to its current location at 15 North Morris Street. Stephen Thomson in 1961 partnered with Oscar Benson and they incorporated under the name Benson Thomson Agency, Inc In 1986 Jay Thomson joined his father in the family insurance business and is now running the day to day operations of the Agency. We have been providing insurance to families and businesses in Northern New Jersey's, Morris County and surrounding Counties for over 85 years! Since then, we have gained the trust of our clients throughout the years and for some area families it's been generations. As an Independent Insurance Agency, we continue to follow the same path of success that Sam Gibson, Oscar Benson, Steve Thomson and Jay Thomson have done, by maintaining and creating stable long term client relationships and will do so for the years to come. Benson Thomson Agency is an Independent Insurance Agent. Meaning that our agency represents a number of insurance companies that provides us with many alternative routes when trying to select the best possible coverage and pricing for our clients. Oscar Benson expanded his role in the community over the years leading by example as he was the past President of the Morris County Board of Realtors, on the Board of trustees at Dover General Hospital, President of Randolph Building and Loan ( now a part of Sovereign Bank ), and served on the Board of National Union Bank ( now part of JP Morgan Chase ). The Agency has been honored over the years for its involvement as Stephen Thomson was honored by Rotary International of Dover for his outstanding community service in 1988, the Dover Chamber of Commerce as Business man of the year in October of 1993, and later became a George F. Hixson Fellow with Kiwanis International in October of 1998. Honors aside, Stephen Thomson served as the Treasurer of Mine Hill from 1948 to 1976 and still found some time to volunteer as a Little League Coach and a recreation department girl's softball coach. Jay Thomson enjoys spending some of his time helping to safeguard the natural resources and enhance the quality of life in Morris County by serving on the Morris County Open Space and Farmland Preservation Trust Fund committees. The Board of chosen Freeholders, Morris County selected Jay in November of 2003 to be honored for his years of dedicated service to Morris County for his role as chairman of the above committees. Jay has contributed to several other areas of the community by supporting Kiwanis International, now a life member ; is past President Dover Kiwanis Club and an Advisor to Dover High School's Key Club. He supports the local Dover Chamber of Commerce as a trustee, been given the Award Merit by the Boy Scouts of Am
