- Dental ExaminationFor a checkup (or oral exam), Dr. Gaunt will look at your teeth, gums, jaw, and dental work to try and catch the slightest signs of any problems. That way, he can intervene early and take care of you with conservative treatments. By coming to see him regularly, any issues you might have can be kept small and relatively harmless!
- X-raysTraditional dental X-rays required a lot of time to develop and exposed people to uncomfortable amounts of radiation, but thanks to the advent of digital dentistry, these problems have both been solved. Digital X-rays can create crystal-clear images almost instantly, and they emit up to 80% less radiation as well. Plus, the images can be easily blown up, rotated, and color-coded so you can easily go over them with your dentist.
- Oral Cancer ScreeningOral cancer is a very dangerous disease that is actually quite treatable when detected early, which is why Dr. Gaunt recommends that every adult should undergo at least one oral cancer screening per year. He can perform one as part of your regular checkups to make sure you’re never caught off-guard. The screening itself only takes a few minutes, but it could literally be those few minutes that save your life.
- Teeth CleaningThink of scaling and root planing as a dental cleaning that is specifically focused on your gums. Using an ultrasonic cleaner, we’ll first remove any plaque and tartar that is built up around your gum line (scaling), and then we’ll gently reshape the roots of your teeth. Why? Because this will make plaque less likely to gather on them in the future, significantly lowering your chances of redeveloping gum disease.
- Fluoride TreatmentFluoride is found in nature, but you’ll also find it in most toothpastes and public water sources because it has been shown to help protect the teeth from decay and cavities. To make sure you stay cavity-free between appointments, we can provide you with a topical fluoride treatment at each of your checkups. It only takes a few minutes, is completely painless, and it will help keep your teeth strong until we can see you again!
- Dental SealantsA dental sealant allows us to place an invisible barrier over a tooth in order to keep it protected from cavity-causing plaque, bacteria, and acids. For this, we’ll apply a clear, thin layer of a plastic-based substance directly to the teeth. We typically only need to use them for the back teeth, as their pitted and grooved surfaces make them the most difficult to clean (particularly for small children). They take minutes to apply and can provide up to 10 years of reliable cavity protection.
- Fillings
- Resin CompositeIn our mission to always make a patient’s smile look great after any treatment, our practice only uses tooth-colored fillings when repairing small cavities and slightly damaged teeth. They are made of a composite resin material that we can color-match to make it practically invisible in the mouth, and because it’s entirely metal-free, it won’t make a tooth more sensitive to temperature changes like a traditional filling. It even bonds directly to the enamel to help restore a tooth’s strength as well.
- VeneersThe most important characteristics of porcelain veneers are that they are lifelike and color-stable. Plus, when bonded to the teeth, they are durable for many years of beautiful service. Dr. Gaunt feels that it is very important to work with the patient to determine if veneers are the right cosmetic solution to match your smile goals. With a short, yet thorough exam, you will learn the potential of your smile! This is a very important decision, so our goal is to make you feel as comfortable and informed as possible. We look forward to meeting you.
- CrownsCrowns, or caps, are used to restore broken or cracked teeth. The new metal-free crowns eliminate the ugly black line you may have seen next to the gum line on older crowns.
- BridgesAnother form of tooth replacement available is fixed bridge. Unlike dentures and partials, fixed bridges are not removable. They are retained by your own teeth! Crowns on either side of the bridge of replacement teeth affix to your remaining teeth to give your fixed bridge stability and a comfortable feel. A fixed bridge can restore your smile when missing teeth have interrupted oral function and beauty, giving you the ability to chew and speak without worry of people noticing missing teeth. We highly encourage anyone who is missing even a single tooth to explore tooth replacement options such as fixed bridges with Dr. Gaunt because missing teeth can have a very negative effect on your overall oral function and bite. Other teeth will begin to shift and move in response to the empty space. A fixed bridge is one way to replace teeth and counteract this problem.
- Dental BondingBonding can be used for a variety of services, and it is most often utilized to fill in teeth that have been chipped or cracked. Modern materials used in dental bonding can be altered to blend into your smile perfectly, so nobody will be the wiser about your repairs!
- Restorative DentistryFull mouth restoration, also known as full mouth reconstruction, is used to help the patient achieve optimal health of the entire mouth, including gums, teeth, and bite. This is done by addressing several dental issues, such as missing and damaged teeth, gum, and periodontal bone problems. It typically includes a combination of cosmetic and restorative dentistry services such as dental implants, dental crowns, bridges, veneers, gum re-contouring and fillings. It may also include treatment to improve the bite, such as orthodontics and TMD treatment to correct problems involving temporomandibular joints.
- Root Canal TreatmentRoot canal treatment is also known as endodontics. Root canal treatment is required when tooth decay has broken through the outer enamel and infected the heart of the tooth.
- DenturesDr. Gaunt uses advanced techniques that allow you to actually see what your smile will look like beforehand. Dentures not only replace teeth and make chewing and eating easier but they can restore your smile and your confidence. There are a number of ways to replace teeth and most require several steps to ensure the best look and fit. Make an appointment and we can discuss the options that would best suit your needs.
- Dental ImplantsMissing teeth can make everything from speaking to eating something to worry about, but with dental implants, our team can make all of those problems go away. A dental implant is a prosthetic tooth-root that helps us rebuild your entire tooth from the bottom up, delivering the most natural-looking and reliable results available today. Whether you are missing a single tooth or an entire mouthful, Dr. Geoff Gaunt can use dental implants to give you your complete smile back. To learn more about them and what they can do for you, contact us today.
- Oral SurgerySince full mouth restorations usually require extensive dental work that may include several oral surgery procedures, the ideal candidate should be in good general health, even though they are suffering from poor oral health. Even though full mouth restorations require multiple visits of extensive work many are willing to pay that price for an enhanced appearance, restored self-esteem and optimal oral health that will last for many years.
- Gum SurgeryHaving gum surgery without the need for needles and no bleeding or stitches, being able to eat, drink and talk right after surgery with no discomfort.
- OrthodonticsSix Month Smiles is an easy comfortable way to reshape your smile. It provides a more cosmetic look than traditional metal orthodontics by using tooth-colored materials that are barely visible. Most adults with minor smile misalignments will find that they are viable candidates for Six Month Smiles. Quick, comfortable, and nearly invisible, Six Month Smiles offer you all the best traits in smile-reshaping orthodontics.
- BracesModern dentistry has developed a lot of solutions when it comes to straightening your smile. There are standard two (or more) year braces, or you can choose Six Month Smiles. Six Month Smiles is available at our office, and this straightening solution provides excellent results in far less time than those other methods. Average treatment times are about six months, which is how this treatment got its name. While metal braces can take as long as two years to transform your smile, Six Month Smiles accomplishes the same cosmetic goal in less than half the time. Why wait to enjoy your smile?
- Teeth WhiteningBelieve it or not, everyday actions like drinking coffee or tea, using tobacco products, and even eating bright foods like carrots can affect the color of your enamel. You'll be able to ask Dr. Gaunt about these reasons for your tooth discoloration during your teeth whitening appointment.
