Rehabilitation Institute

The Rehab institute has helped our mom tremendously. The staff at the rehab institute have been so helpful in answering amy questions we may have about our Mom's recovery and they made us feel very comfortable upon arrival. All I have to say is good things about the rehabilitation institute and I'm not one to leave reviews. We as a family felt comfortable leaving our family member here, and she is my mom.

I never, ever leave reviews about places -- but in this case I feel so compelled to do I am going around to all the possible websites available to do so (so if you see this elsewhere, you know it was me).

Let me start by saying this place is terrific for patients. My family member stayed fairly recently for his rehab. The 1-star rating I have given this place isn't indicative of the true greatness of this place -- but it is significant (keep reading). The staff is absolutely amazing except one person (more on that shortly). The occupational therapists, physical therapists, volunteers, nurses, techs, and doctor are amazing and helpful beyond anything you can imagine. I truly can't stress this enough. Please know that the people dealing directly with your loved ones are AMAZING. Now, here's why I give this place a one star -- but I'm really doing it to give one person a one star, in the hopes you read this and learn from this. The case/social worker there is TERRIBLE. I realize we all have different experiences, so I have no doubt some of you reading this had (or will have) great interactions with this person -- but the case worker came across to me as lazy, smug, arrogant, and simply puts off an attitude of generally uncaring about anyone or anything but herself. I walked into/by her office probably a dozen times and on a minimum of 25% of those occasions she wasn't helping with patients info, but rather on shopping or travel websites and the like.

Now look, I know we all need a few minutes of "relaxation" during the workday. I'll be the first to tell you I don't clock in for 8 hours and go 100% all day, every day. We need a little break now and then to be at our true best. And I have no doubt that job is stressful. But it still shows a total lack of professionalism. At least turn your computer to a different spot!

But that's not even my biggest gripe. My biggest grip goes back to her attitude. She makes the family feel unwelcome, and stupid. She makes it seems like our feelings don't count, that we don't know how to handle our family (in my case, a somewhat elderly family member), and frankly she makes you feel like you are the reason your family member ended up there in the first place, regardless of whether it was a fall or car wreck or what-have-you.

I could rant on and on about this forever, so I won't. All I will say is that if you want to truly know what is going on with your family member, be there as much as you can and talk to the therapists and the doctor and everyone else. They are the one truly caring for your family on a daily basis thankfully. Short of what you have to do, avoid the case/social worker as much as possible, because they will ruin your day -- and it's already tough enough to have a loved one hurt, so that person certainly won't help things.

To all the doctors, therapists, nurses, etc: Thank you so much for your work with my loved ones! To the case/social worker: shame on you for making us feel like dirt.
