It was a Friday evening I had just got home from work, my 11 year would 16 lb. wiener dog as excited as always to see me. I checked the rat poison I had put out days before in the laundry room behind the washing machine & behind the dryer, both 1 ounce pieces gone! No way the mice I was attempting to eradicate consumed all of that poison, a thread of fear & dread staring to form in my mind. My wiener dog acting as feisty as ever.....no way she ate that poison? How could she have possibly gotten back there? That thread of fear & dread growing, I checked the spot where my little dog goes every time I give her a treat......where I find small traces of RAT POISON!! Full on mental PANIC, mind racing, my irresponsibility is gonna cost my innocent dog to suffer a horrible painful death. That's where Denton County Animal ER comes in, a 30 minute drive in Friday rush hour traffic seem to take forever. Once inside the professional, friendly staff took complete control of the situation, The techs, and the doctor extremely helpful, caring, and reassuring, explained what they were doing to my dog and what to expect over the next few hours and days. Long story short 28 hours after walking thru the front door of DCAER with my dog, that I was sure I was killing, I took her home. That was three days ago, thank you Denton County Animal ER for saving my dog's life, and my sanity.

After researching ER vet clinics for my four-legged babies, I found Denton County Animal ER. I understand, just like human ERs, vet ERs are going to be more expensive. I also know that there are going to be longer wait times since there are no appointments. With that being said, I unfortunately had to use their facility multiple times. I had a house fire that left my cat with burned paws and difficulty breathing. Since I called ahead, they were waiting on me when I arrived, and my cat was taken back quickly and treated. I love how compassionate everyone is there. They empathized with what I was going through and the shock I was in from everything that occurred that night. They explained to me my treatment options and medically what was going on. DCAER was willing to work with me financially. They offered me many different types of payment options instead of insisting on the money BEFORE they would treat my Kali. They also had to treat my dog and were very compassionate.

Need to Improve Bedside Manner and professionalism

My puppy was up to date on vaccinations and had suddenly become lethargic after having a topical flea and tick prevention applied to his coat. It of course was after hours and our veterinarian listed this number for ER cases. I called and gave detailed information on the dog's history, age, actions, and anything new to the dog in the last 24 hours. The tech was cold on the phone and just started going through the old "follow this paragraph" routine of what to say to give a high estimate. The tech even said that the doctor would follow through with a Parvo test. I reminded the technician that my puppy was 16 weeks, through vaccines, not out in public places, not vomiting nor having any diarrhea much less bloody diarrhea. She talked down to me as if I was uneducated about wellness. She didn't realize that I had been a Lead Veterinary Technician for 8 years at a busy hospital. I left the field to go to college and the doctor whom I admired moved his clinic to Colorado for semi-retirement. Anyway, I was ticked and told her goodbye. I called another doctor further away and he helped me take care of my dogs reaction to the topical. We do not use topicals for my puppy and since have not had any "lethargic" experiences. I am glad that I didn't have to pay over 120 dollars for unnecessary testing just to help pay the salary of the techs.

the vets do not care

today my cat was attacked at 9am by a pit bull terrier, she was in a bad condition so i called and they wouldnt take the emergency because the vet was going to lunch in 15 min. I even stressed that she was badly hurt and needed medical attention. the vet was told(while they put me on hold for 4 min) and was completely nonchalant and impersonal. i severely detest this hospital, many owners should be able to understand me because you wouldnt want your baby to die, this cat is very special to me and my bf, we adopted her together and shes the greatest pet we have ever had. she was already a rescue case and now shes a spoiled brat and we love her. i could barely talk when i talked to the hosp. and they still didnt care, i had just watched my cat get shook around like a rag doll and couldnt do anything, because its far worse if a human gets bit because we have to get so many shots and it would have been a horrible ordeal. im already going through enough to have her hurt on top of it. i just want to stress to everyone animal safetly because you CANNOT count on your local veterinarian. i will never go there again.

The best decision I ever made!

My dog, Cheyenne, is diabetic and developed ketoacidosis. She required 24 hour emergency care and the staff at the DCAER were amazing! Cheyenne received the best care available and she got better in no time! Thanks to everyone at the DCAER for your caring and compassion. You're the best!

Can count on them

My dog, Bu, was hit by a car. They got him in immediately and made me feel very comfortable. Their prices were great. About the same or even less than my regular vet on everything. They called me to let me know of any changes. They really are miracle workers!
