Located in Selkirk, N.Y., Bethlehem Highway Department is responsible for maintaining the streets and sidewalks, including paving, cleaning and snow removal. It organizes various annual events, such as the Spring Cleanup which helps residents dispose of wooden items and its Household Hazardous Waste Day is when it accepts cleaners, paints, thinners and solvents, and other household hazardous wastes for recycling or safe disposal. It also organizes Garden Day when limited amounts of free compost and wood chips are made available to area gardeners, and Summer Pickup is when the department s crews collect grass clippings and brush placed curbside in reusable containers or in biodegradable paper bags. The department additionally organizes an electronics collection day that provides the residents with opportunities to dispose of old and outdated electronics, such as computers and computer parts, televisions, cell phones and telephones.
