The mission of Decatur Fire and Rescue is to provide emergency response services, code enforcement, public education and ongoing training. The fire department acts as a first responder to structure and vehicle fires, wild fires, medical emergencies, hazardous materials incidents and water rescues. Its fire prevention and investigation services include code enforcement, fire cause determination, public education and construction plans review. The department has more than 70 firefighters cross-trained as emergency medical technicians, 26 of whom are licensed paramedics. Decatur Fire and Rescue s staff of more than 100 is divided among three battalions.
