- General Info
- The Dallas Symphony Orchestra was founded in May 1900 when a 40-member ensemble performed under the direction of German-born conductor Hans Kreissig. In the ensuing years, the orchestra grew under the leadership of several conductors. In 1945, Antal Dorati transformed the ensemble into a fully professional orchestra that recorded with RCA, expanded its repertoire and gave more concerts and national network radiobroadcasts. In 1977, Eduardo Mata was appointed music director and conductor of the DSO. The orchestra recorded with RCA and Dorian, held two Carnegie Hall performances, a performance at Kennedy Center, a European tour and concerts in Mexico City and Singapore. In December 1992, the Dallas Symphony Association named Andrew Litton as music director and conductor. In November 1995, he led the orchestra in a performance at Carnegie Hall. The Dallas Symphony Orchestra is in Dallas.
