- Medical Weight LossSagging, bagging jowls, loose neck skin, and fatty deposits under the chin can be attributed to a number of factors from aging, to weight loss, to genetics. What’s worse, it’s been said that your neck can reveal your true age more than your face! What’s more, no amount of dieting or exercise can change your neck’s appearance. Nevertheless, plastic surgeons in the Cumberland, Hagerstown, and Morgantown areas perform neck lifts to alter your aesthetic appearance.

- General SurgeryMeet Dr. Carpenter Trained as an artist and naturally gifted with exceptional surgical precision, Dr. Carpenter chose to pursue plastic surgery because he saw it as a way to blend his artistic and surgical gifts (“Plus,†he says, “It’s a really cool job.†). While earning his undergraduate degree in Biology at The College of William and Mary, Dr Carpenter published artwork in the College’s art magazine, and had a side business designing and selling T-shirts at the College. After college, he completed his doctoral studies at the University of Virginia School of Medicine, followed by a General Surgery residency at the University of Rochester School of Medicine. He received his Plastic Surgery training at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions. He settled in the mountains of Cumberland, Maryland to establish his private practice in 1995. He is Board-Certified in Plastic Surgery and a member of both the American Society of Plastic Surgery and the American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. - BotoxXeominâ„¢ is an FDA-approved, highly-purified neurotoxin prescription injection that is primarily used to treat moderate to severe frown lines. An alternative to Botox and Dysport, Xeominâ„¢ is injected into your face muscles to soften frown lines and improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between your eyebrows, also known as glabellar lines.
- Brow LiftOver time, skin begins to lose its elasticity, and when combined with the effects of sun, wind, and the pull of gravity, the result can be frown lines and forehead wrinkles that make friends ask, “Is something bothering you?†or “What are you angry about?†If you are hearing questions such as these lately, perhaps it’s time for an endoscopic brow lift.
- Eyelid SurgeryMore than any other facial feature, the appearance of the eyes is responsible for giving an awake, vibrant, and youthful look. Eyelid surgery is a common plastic surgery procedure designed to improve the cosmetic appearance of the eyelids or to repair any functional problems. Patients in Cumberland, MD chose eyelid surgery for many reasons.
- LiposuctionLiposuction is a technique in which very small incisions and thin metal suction tubes (cannulas) are used to remove the soft fatty tissue from underneath the skin. Liposuction is best used to remove disproportionate collections of fat, which create “bulges†. Typical areas that respond well to liposuction are the lower abdominal wall, “love handles†, and the lateral portion of the thighs, the so-called “saddlebags†. Because liposuction removes only the fatty tissue under the skin, the skin over the area to be suctioned typically should be free of stretch marks, wrinkling, and not overly lax. After removal of the fatty tissue, the skin needs to “shrink†to the smaller contour. Some areas where the skin is very lax do not respond very well to liposuction. In Cumberland, Hagerstown, and Morgantown, we offer patients the option of liposuction.
- Breast AugmentationBreast enhancement is a term that has recently come into popular use, mostly when referring to breast enlargement (breast augmentation). Breast enhancement is probably more appropriate because breast augmentation procedures improve the aesthetics of the breasts, as well as enlarge them. The aesthetics of the breast include not only the size of the breast (the breast mound), but also the condition of the skin and the position of the nipple on the breast.
- Breast ReductionBreast reduction surgery aims to reduce the size of breasts that are too large or cause discomfort. During the procedure, incisions will be made on the breast. The type of incision will depend on your individual anatomy and the amount of breast tissue and skin that needs to be removed. Any incisions made will be created as inconspicuously as possible, and can easily be concealed by undergarments, bathing suits, or clothing. After incisions are made, the nipple will be repositioned, excess breast tissue is reduced, and excess skin is removed. Sutures will hold together any incisions. Results are immediate after breast reduction surgery, though swelling and incision lines will fade with time.
- Breast Lift€œBreast lift†is for women who don’t necessarily want an increase in the size of their breasts, but would like to restore a more youthful “perkiness.†A breast lift also restores the nipple to a more forward pointing position on the breast if it is sagging downward. A breast lift can be used to correct asymmetry of the position of the nipple or position of the breast on the chest wall.
- RhinoplastyCandidates for a rhinoplasty are those who are unhappy with the appearance of their nose or suffer from functional issues with the nose. Interventions may affect only the soft tissue or may change the soft tissue, the cartilages of the nose, and the bones of the upper portion of the nose. Almost any portion of the nose can be changed including...
- Breast ReconstructionThe decision for breast reconstruction can be a complex and almost overwhelming decision for many women. This is a very trying period, and patients need as much education as possible, while at the same time undergoing the emotional stress of the cancer diagnosis. Many patients are seeking general information on reconstruction, even before making a decision for mastectomy vs. breast-sparing surgery.
- Plastic SurgeryChildren are a true blessing, and we love kids at Allegany Plastic Surgery! The changes that result from childbearing, however, are not always such a blessing. Pregnancy and the hormone changes that accompany it often produce predictable and often unwanted changes to a woman’s figure. These include...
- Thigh LiftThe thighs are one area where fat can accumulate and be very difficult to get rid of. Not only this, but weight fluctuations can cause stretching and sagging of the skin. For these reasons, surgical correction of the thighs is one of the best options available. This process is called a thigh lift and uses incisions to remove fat and excess skin.
- Face LiftNot every patient who comes in asking for a facelift needs a traditional facelift or needs the full spectrum of options that are available in a traditional, full facelift. Often times, a moderate elevation of the sagging fat pads in the cheek, a suspension of the neck tissues, and a conservative skin excision will yield an excellent result. In the age of need for quick recovery and return to function, the “SAFE†Lift was born. Dr. Carpenter has been performing the “SAFE†lift procedure in Cumberland, MD since 2007.
- Neck LiftA neck lift cannot stop aging, nor can it turn back the clock. What it can do is help your face look its best and give you a healthy look and a more youthful appearance. A side benefit is that many patients experience increased self-confidence. You can expect different results depending on your unique appearance. Neck lift patients in the Cumberland, Hagerstown, and Morgantown areas can expect an aesthetically more pleasing appearance.
- BlepharoplastyPatients who have good preservation of their facial volume and who have smooth and unwrinkled skin but are still showing signs of aging are excellent candidates for this procedure. Candidates with mild to moderate sagging in the midface can benefit from a SAFE procedure for facial rejuvenation. The procedure can be done in a few hours under local anesthesia with a quick recovery time of 5 to 7 days, making it a great option for those who cannot afford a lot of recovery and downtime. Most patients are returned to full function 2 to 3 days after their procedure. For those with multiple areas of the face affected by aging, “SAFE†Lift can be combined with a brow lift, blepharoplasty or injection of fillers to improve the result of the total facial rejuvenation. For more severe skin laxity, sagging, and folds, patients might benefit more from a traditional facelift. A consultation with Dr. Carpenter is the best way to ensure that patients are good candidates for the procedure or if another technique would be more beneficial.
- AbdominoplastyJust had abdominoplasty done July 16th.  I am amazed how great it turned out  and I can’t wait to see the final results. (after all swelling is down) Dr. Carpenter and the staff who helped me out are awesome. Thank you very much!!
- Nose SurgeryPerformed in Cumberland, nose surgery may be done under local or general anesthesia and may take anywhere from 1-3 hours. Incisions for a rhinoplasty can be made hidden inside the nose or across the columella. Through these incisions, your surgeon will reshape your nose to achieve your desired results. This might involve removing bone or cartilage, straightening the septum, and reshaping the structures of the nose. Typical characteristics that can be addressed at surgery include...
- Body LiftDespite regular exercise and dieting, it’s difficult to lose stubborn fatty deposits that can manifest in different areas of the body during pregnancy. Even as you lose weight with your regimen, it can leave behind unsightly, sagging skin that will not disappear on its own. Dr. Carpenter can perform a body lift that removes fatty deposits and restructures the underlying connective tissues, giving you a slimmer and toned appearance. For cellulite concerns, we can recommend non-surgical treatments like Cellulaze..
- Body ContouringTruSculpt iD is a non-surgical body contouring treatment that is proven to reduce fat cells in as little as 15 minutes by up to 24%. Unlike other fat reduction treatments, TruSculpt uses Monopolar radiofrequency (RF) energy to selectively and precisely heat fat cells to damage and kill them. The damaged cells are removed from the body through natural waste removal processes, giving you great results in just a few weeks.
- Laser ResurfacingRecognized as the most effective program for post procedure skin management, designed for use after laser resurfacing procedures, chemical peels or any combined ablative treatment.
- GynecomastiaMale “breast†development or fullness is known as gynecomastia. Although it may seem strange, this condition is actually fairly common in men of all ages. It can result from hormonal imbalance, weight gain, or genetics.
- Facial ImplantsFacial implants are specially formed solid, bio-compatible materials designed to enhance or augment the physical structure of your face. The precise type and size of implants best suited for you requires an evaluation of your goals, the features you wish to correct, and your surgeon’s judgment. Your Cumberland Plastic surgeon will work with you to decide what may work for you.
- Chin AugmentationChin augmentation is accomplished with implants that can increase the size and projection of a chin that does not project in proportion with the forehead and mid-face. A small or recessed chin can also be described as one that seems to disappear into the neck of an individual of normal weight, rather than appearing as a distinct facial feature. request an appointment
- Forehead LiftAlso called a forehead lift, an endoscopic brow lift soothes your forehead, raises sagging eyebrows and diminishes frown lines that make you look tired, sad, angry or simply older than you’d like to. Plastic surgeons in the Cumberland, Hagerstown, and Morgantown areas offer brow lifts to create a desired aesthetic appearance.

- Chemical PeelsThe ZO Stimulator Peel is sometimes called a “lunchtime peel†because it can be completed in about 30 minutes and requires no downtime. This mild chemical peel contains a combination of salicylic acid, lactic acid, and citric acid that exfoliates the skin and promotes cell turnover while dissolving dead skin cells on the top layer of the skin. As dead skin is stripped away, bright healthy skin will be revealed.
- Skin CareFacials are done with medical-grade skin care products and will have a skin analysis after the first cleanse.
- Physical TherapyMost plastic surgeons would agree that breast reduction patients are the happiest group of patients after surgery. Women with overly large breasts frequently complain of upper back pain, strain on the neck or upper shoulders, grooves from their bra straps, pain within the breasts themselves, and a rash forming under the breasts. They frequently are unable to find clothes that fit properly and have a hard time bra shopping. Frequently, physical therapy or chiropractic therapy has been tried, but is unsuccessful in alleviating their discomfort. Almost all patients experience improvement after breast reduction surgery, no matter what age group.
