I'm a professor and chair of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health at The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. I also hold the Charles F. Sinsabaugh Chair in Psychiatry. As a psychiatrist, I am dedicated to treating the whole patient and understanding the connection between mental and physical health. Ultimately, I strive to treat each patient with respect and develop a treatment plan that is tailored specifically to each patient. Recommended care is based on the latest proven medical knowledge, along with the unique realities of each person's current physical and mental health challenges. I also believe it's important to understand an individual's illness before, during and after completion of treatment to support lasting recovery or to help a patient restart or continue effective therapie y research aims to better understand mental disorders and what causes them, as well as what new treatments may prove more effective, including both medicine or behavioral therapy. My goal is to promote recovery and resilience and to study mental illness from childhood through adulthood to better appreciate how it impacts individuals differently. My research is concentrated on post-traumatic stress disorder, depression and anxiety disorders, but also includes studies on drug and alcohol addiction, and the connection that stress has with depression and anxiety. I was awarded the Presidential Early Career Award for Scientists and Engineers (PECASE) in 2011, the highest honor bestowed by the . government on outstanding scientists and engineers in the early stages of their independent research career. In addition, my research has been consistently funded over the past 20 years by the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Veterans Affairs (VA) and Department of Defense (DoD).Over 260 journals have published my peer-reviewed articles, including JAMA Psychiatry-Archives of General Psychiatry, Biological Psychiatry, American Journal of Psychiatry,
