- What is Botox?Botox® is a muscle relaxing agent derived from Botulinum, which reduces wrinkles and fine lines by temporarily paralyzing the muscle. The most common area of treatment is in the frown lines of the forehead. It may also be used to treat excessive underarm sweating.
- How does the treatment work? When you have Botox in Columbus, Ohio or Botox in Zanesville, Ohio, the treatment temporarily reduces the muscle contractions that cause wrinkles. By relaxing the muscles, the overlying skin becomes smoother. Several tiny injections are administered directly into the muscles that cause lines and wrinkles. Your health care provider will determine where those muscles are located.
- Is Botox safe?Yes, its safe and it has very few side effects. Rare side effects include headache, flu symptoms, and temporary eyelid droop.
- Will there be any downtime? You may resume normal activities immediately. Vigorous exercise or laying flat may be restricted for a few hours following treatment. Many clients undergo Botox® in Columbus, Ohio or Botox® in Zanesville Ohio during their lunch break, and they can return to work after treatment.
- What are the benefits of Botox?Botox® has no downtime, as opposed to other wrinkle reducing methods. Also, following treatment, there is little to no pain or discomfort. Results can be seen after only one session.
- How long does a Botox treatment last?A Botox® treatment lasts only a short period of time, and it depends upon how many areas are being injected and the size of the treated areas.
- How does the treatment feel? The only pain or discomfort is a slight pin-prick sensation from the small needle injecting the Botox®. If necessary, ice or a topical anesthetic may be applied prior to your treatment for Botox® in Columbus, Ohio or Botox® in Zanesville Ohio.
- How long do results last? Results of Botox® vary, and they can last up to four months. Generally, most people can expect three months of improvement. Treatments are offered every few months for maintenance.
- Who are candidates?Anyone who is aged 18 and 65 and interested in improving the appearance of their face is a good candidate for Botox®. Many candidates are seeking relief from wrinkles and brow furrows.
- Who should avoid Botox?Do not use this procedure if you have an infection where there will be an injection, if you are allergic to any of the ingredients, or if you are pregnant. Some conditions may increase the chance of infection, so a doctor should be advised of your medical history before receiving Botox® in Columbus, Ohio or Botox® in Zanesville Ohio.
- What are the alternative treatments? An alternative treatment is skin resurfacing, which includes many types of laser therapies and chemical peels. These procedures can be painful, and they may have a much longer recovery time. Other alternatives include surgery such as a brow lift.
- Is additional treatment necessary?Generally, after three to four months, the Botox® effects will begin to fade and facial features will gradually return to their former state. Maintenance treatments are necessary to keep the effect of Botox® for long periods of time.
- What are the limitations? The limitation of having Botox® in Columbus, Ohio or Botox® in Zanesville Ohio is that it’s not a permanent answer to reducing wrinkles. Also, results vary, and occasional problems with asymmetry may occur.
- Who are treatments provided by?Treatments can be provided by any authorized healthcare professional.
- Instructions before treatmentAvoid alcoholic beverages and anti-inflammatory medications before treatment. Schedule a Botox® appointment at least two weeks prior to any special events to allow time to heal.
- Instructions after treatmentTreat any mild discomfort with Tylenol, and expect temporary swelling. If desired, an icepack can be applied after treatment. Do not massage the treated areas, because it may move the Botox® around and create a different effect. It is generally recommended to remain upright for four hours after injections, and to avoid aerobic activity for a few hours.

There are several different lasers available that work extremely well at treating unwanted veins, including pulsed dye, long pulsed, variable-pulsed Nd-YAG and Alexandrite.
- How many treatments are required? The majority of the treated veins will disappear within two to three treatments which are administered in three to four week intervals. - Who are candidates for Laser Vein Removal?Clients with spider veins on their legs or face are candidates for Laser Vein Removal. Both light and dark-skinned clients can safely and effectively benefit from Laser Vein Removal.
- Who should avoid Laser Vein Removal?Clients taking high doses of blood-thinners are generally not candidates for Laser Vein Removal. Also, clients with dark suntans, bleeding disorders or those currently taking photosensitizing medications may also want to avoid Laser Vein Removal.
- How does the treatment feel? Most Laser Vein Removal clients report little discomfort and describe it as either as a mild burning sensation or similar to a rubber band snapping against the skin.
- What are the alternative treatments? An alternative to Laser Vein Removal is sclerotherapy, which is a solution injected into a targeted area of skin to reduce spider veins. There are anywhere from five to forty injections per treatment.
- Is additional treatment necessary? The number of treatments necessary to resolve your veins depends on the size of the vein and your body’s ability to heal. Future treatments may be necessary to remove new vein growth.
- Instructions for before treatmentAvoid sun tanning or tanning products for four weeks prior to treatment. Discontinue Accutane® and Retin-A® for six weeks prior to treatment. Aspirin and other blood thinners should also be avoided for at least three days before treatment. Shave the area before treatment.

- If you are looking for a medical professional located in the Zanesville and Columbus, Ohio area that can answer all your questions about Medical Facial and Skin Peels, then contact us today to set up your consultation.
- What is a Medical Peel?Medical Peels are a category of advanced clinical skin rejuvenation treatments that aid in reversing damaged skin due to factors such as aging, sun exposure and acne.
- Who are candidates for Medical Peels?Clients who have facial blemishes, wrinkles and uneven skin pigmentation are candidates.
- What are the types of Medical Peels? There are three levels of Medical Peels ranging in intensity and strength: -
- Alphahydroxy Acids (AHA)These are the mildest form of Medical Peels and provide smoother, brighter-looking skin. AHA peels may be used for treating fine lines, areas of dryness and pigmentation problems. AHA can be mixed with bleaching creams to correct pigment problems, and it can be used as a pre-treatment for the TCA peel. The peels’ ingredients originate from glycolic, lactic and fruit acids.
- Trichloracetic Acids (TCA)This type is a medium-depth peeling system that may be performed in different variations. Fine surface wrinkles, superficial blemishes and pigmentation problems are commonly treated with this type of Medical Peel. More than one TCA peel may be needed to achieve desired results, but the recovery time is shorter than with a Phenol treatment.
- PhenolThis is the deepest, strongest Medical Peel procedure with the most dramatic and longest-lasting results. It is used mainly to treat clients with coarse facial wrinkles, areas of blotchy or sun damaged skin. Since Phenol can cause the skin to lighten, your skin tone should be taken into consideration when deciding whether this level of treatment is right for you.
- How many treatments are required?Multiple treatments are common with certain Medical Peels:
- Alphahydroxy AcidsVarious levels of AHA peels can be performed weekly or at longer intervals.
- Trichloracetic AcidsThis peel is more intense and two to three TCA peels are usually performed to achieve desired results.
- PhenolA single treatment usually produces desired effects. Are Medical Peels safe? Medical Peels are safe, but each treatment has different side effects. Some AHA peels may cause irritation, flaking and soreness. Complications for TCA and Phenol peels include scarring and changes in skin color.
- Will there be any downtime? There is no downtime with AHA Medical Peels. A TCA peel may cause redness and swelling, and a mild pain medication may be prescribed by a physician. Phenol peels may involve intense swelling and pain. You will be able to resume normal activities in a week to ten days.
- Alphahydroxy AcidsThe results from this Medical Peel may be very subtle at first. You will detect a natural, healthy glow to your skin, and with multiple treatments, even better results can be seen.
- Trichloracetic AcidsSkin will be noticeably smoother and fresher-looking. Results are longer-lasting than an AHA peel.
- PhenolThis peel will result in dramatic improvements in the surface of the skin, including fewer wrinkles, fewer blemishes and even skin tone.
- Who should avoid Medical Peels?Clients with cold sores or sensitive skin may be at a greater risk for post-treatment complications.
- Alphahydroxy Acids (AHA)AHA peels are used to smooth rough, dry skin, improve texture of sun damaged skin and aid in control of acne. AHA can be mixed with bleaching creams to correct pigment problems, and it can be used as a pre-treatment for the TCA peel. A series of peels may be needed.
- Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA)TCA peels smooth out fine surface wrinkles, remove superficial blemishes and corrects pigment problems. These peels may require pre-treatment with Retin-A or AHA creams. Additional treatments may be needed to maintain results. The healing process is usually quick.
- PhenolThe Phenol peel corrects blotches caused by sun exposure, hormones and aging. It smoothes out coarse wrinkles and areas of blotchy or sun damaged skin. This peel is used only on the face and is not recommended for dark-skinned individuals. Full-face treatment may take an hour or more. The recovery rate is slow, and complete healing can take several weeks. Sun protection must always be used following the peel, and permanent skin lightening and lines of demarcation may occur.
- If you are looking for knowledgeable medical professionals that can explain Microdermabrasion or set up a consultation in the Zanesville & Columbus, Ohio area, contact us today.
- What is Microdermabrasion? This is a procedure that uses fine crystals and a controlled vacuum to exfoliate the skin. After the treatment, the skin has improved texture and softness, as well as fewer imperfections such as wrinkles and acne scars.
- How does the treatment work? The skin is washed to remove excess oil and dirt. Then, a medical professional targets a stream of aluminum oxide crystals over the area. The crystals abrade away old, dead skin cells, which the vacuum then picks up with gentle suction. This promotes the growth of collagen and new, rejuvenated skin. Moisturizers and sun block are then applied to the treated area.
- How many treatments are required?Microdermabrasion works best when repeated over several weeks. Discuss the optimum schedule and number of treatments with your medical professional.
- Is it safe?Microdermabrasion is a safe and common procedure. But, as always, provide your full medical history and follow your post-treatment instructions.
- Are there any possible side effects? You may experience some redness and discomfort similar to a sunburn after the treatment. Skin conditions may appear worse for a short time, and your skin may become temporarily darker or lighter.
- Will there be any downtime? One of the advantages of Microdermabrasion is that it has no downtime. You can return to your normal routine and apply cosmetics directly after treatment.
- What are the results? The skin feels softer and appears younger. Minor wrinkles are improved by the growth of new collagen. Exfoliation improves small brown spots, uneven skin tone, acne and acne scars.
- How soon will results appear?A difference is noticeable immediately, and results improve with multiple treatments. Skin improvement varies depending on your individual skin quality.
- How long does a Microdermabrasion treatment take to complete?A facial treatment lasts about half an hour. Additional time is required for additional areas.
- What conditions respond best to this treatment?Works well for damaged skin, whether affected by acne, sun damage or aging.
- Who are candidates? This procedure can be used to rejuvenate skin of any type. Those seeking to reduce minor flaws or wrinkles without downtime are encouraged to consider this option.
- Who should avoid?Microdermabrasion should be avoided by those with recent viral infections, such as cold sores and shingles, those with eczema, sunburns or rosacea, those with auto-immune disorders, poor healing or excessive scarring and those with a history of diabetes or keloid formation. You must not have recently had laser surgery or used Accutane.
- How does the treatment feel?Microdermabrasion does not require anesthesia, although it may be mildly uncomfortable. Tightness and heat are common effects and quickly fade.
- How long do the results last?Lasting effects are dependant on proper skin care. Additional treatments will renew your youthful appearance. A series of six treatments over a few months is recommended for best results, followed by regular maintenance treatments.
- What are the limitations of Microdermabrasion? This process is designed for minor imperfections and general improvement. Those with very large or dark spots, moderate to deep wrinkles and serious scars should seek an alternative treatment.
- Instructions for before treatment:Avoid Retin-A®, sun tanning or tanning creams for at least a week before treatment. Do not have other facial procedures, such as chemical peels, before treatment.
- Instructions for after treatment:Sun block and moisturizers should be applied after treatment. Anti-inflammatory creams or cold compresses may be used as necessary. Avoid irritating the treated skin with harsh chemicals, rubbing or sun tanning for one week. Contact your doctor immediately in the event of any rare effects such as blistering, scabbing or infection.

- What is Laser Hair Removal?Laser Hair Removal is a quick, non-invasive way to permanently reduce unwanted hair.
- How does the treatment work? The area to be treated is cleansed and shaved. A topical numbing cream may be applied. The technician scans the treatment area with the laser, which emits a specific wavelength that passes harmlessly through skin and into the hair follicle. The follicle is heated and damaged, putting an end to hair growth.

- Is Laser Hair Removal safe?Laser Hair Removal is a common, quick and safe procedure. A variety of lasers have been FDA approved for hair reduction.
- Are there any possible side effects? You may experience stinging, mild swelling and pigmentation changes immediately after treatment. - Will there be any downtime? No, you may return to your normal routine immediately.
- What are the benefits of Laser Hair Removal over other treatments?Laser Hair Removal is fast and has long term results. Other hair reduction methods must either be done often or hair by hair.

- How soon will results appear? Results are revealed as your hair goes through its normal cycles. By six months, you should have an idea of how much hair has been reduced.
- How long does a Laser Hair Removal treatment last? The procedure may take anywhere from minutes to hours depending on the size of the area to be treated.
- What conditions respond best to this treatment?Laser Hair Removal works best on those with darker hair than skin tone.
- Who are candidates for Laser Hair Removal? With the newest lasers, individuals of all skin and hair types can be treated.
- Who should avoid Laser Hair Removal? If you have a history of keloid formation, excessive scarring or poor healing, you may not be right for this treatment. Tattoos and permanent makeup can be altered by Laser Hair Removal. This treatment cannot be performed in areas with open sores, lesions or infections.
- How does the treatment feel?Patients usually experience mild pain which can be followed by several hours of a sunburn-like sensation.
- How long do the results last? Results vary from person to person. Permanent reduction is common but cannot be guaranteed.
- What are the alternative treatments?Traditional methods of hair removal include shaving, plucking, waxing, depilatory creams and electrolysis.
- Is additional treatment necessary?Yes, several sessions are required to achieve a consistent hairless effect.
- What are the limitations of Laser Hair Removal?Certain lasers work on melanin, so their use is limited to people with hair darker than skin tone. In general, Laser Hair Removal cannot guarantee permanent hair removal.
- Instructions prior to treatment:Avoid Accutane® for six months before treatment, and avoid anti-inflammatory drugs and Retin-A® for three weeks before treatment. You should not tan (sunless or otherwise) or use any method of hair removal besides shaving for six weeks prior to your session.
- Instructions for after treatment:Keep the area clean and dry. For the first few days, do not scrub or irritate the skin with heavy creams, chemicals, lotions or sun exposure. Use sunscreen with SPF 45 or greater. Apply moisturizers, cold compresses or over-the-counter steroid creams at your discretion. Contact your physician if you develop blisters, scabbing or signs of infection. Your hair will still appear to grow for two or three weeks as it falls out. Additional treatments can be performed until you achieve the desired effect.
- If you are looking for a medical professional located in the Zanesville and Columbus, Ohio area that can answer all your questions about Photo Rejuvenation, then contact us today to set up your consultation.
- What is Photorejuvenation?Photorejuvenation uses a series of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatments at a frequency that targets pigmented cells. The light passes harmlessly through the skin and is absorbed by spots and lesions. The abnormal cells are destroyed, leaving only healthy tissue. IPL also stimulates the growth of collagen, fills in acne scars, decreases pore size and gives skin a youthful appearance.
- What does the treatment entail? The skin is cleansed, prepared with gel and then treated with the light. Afterwards, the gel is cleaned off and replaced with sunscreen. Cold compresses may be used if needed.
- What are the benefits of Photorejuvenation?Photorejuvenation’s short treatment time, quick effects and lack of downtime make it popular. This treatment gives skin a healthy, youthful look and decreases the appearance of blemishes such as acne scars, brown spots and redness from rosacea.
- How many treatments are required? The standard treatment is a series of three to five treatments performed at three to four week intervals. Some may be satisfied with the results from two or three sessions, and some may desire additional sessions.
- Is Photorejuvenation safe?Yes it is a safe, common and quick procedure with little risk.
- Are there any possible side effects? You may experience a sunburned look for a few hours after treatment, and targeted spots will temporarily appear darker and flake off in a couple of days. Hair growth may be affected. Swelling, blistering, infection, unwanted pigmentation changes and scarring are rare side effects. Existing viral infections such as shingles and herpes may be activated by the treatment.
- What conditions respond best to this treatment?Rosacea, age spots, enlarged pores, freckles and sun spots all respond well to Photorejuvenation.
- Will there be any downtime? No, you may immediately return to your normal routine and even apply makeup.
- What can be expected post-treatment?Your skin will be sensitive and will need to be protected from the sun. Any swelling will be minimal and can be treated with cold compresses. Dark spots from the treatment should flake off after a few days.
- How soon will results appear?Noticeable results appear after the first few treatments.
- How long does a Photorejuvenation treatment last?A session lasts about a half an hour.
- Who should avoid Photorejuvenation? You may want to reconsider having Photorejuvenation if you have a history of excessive scarring, bleeding or bruising, sun sensitivity, keloid formation or poor healing. Those with a family history of skin cancer should talk to a specialist about whether or not to proceed.
- How does the treatment feel? You will experience some discomfort. Most find the treatment to be similar to the sensation of a rubber band snapping against the skin.
- How long do the results last? The effects of Photorejuvenation can be permanent if the skin is well cared for.
- What are the alternative treatments? There are other light treatments and topical creams that may be used instead. You should consult a specialist, as Photorejuvenation will not treat the underlying conditions causing your problem areas.
- What are the limitations? Those with darker skin are less likely to see results and more likely to experience adverse side effects.
- Instructions for before treatment:Discontinue use of Accutane® for six months, Retin-A® for two weeks and glycolic acid and alpha-hydroxy acid products for a week before your treatment. - The R20 Tattoo Removal Method (R20 Protocol)R20 represents the cutting edge in laser tattoo removal. The new laser tattoo removal treatment R20 protocol was published in 2011. R20 involves performing 3-4 laser treatments in one session. The result of the R20 method is 50-85% clearing in a single session without additional side effects.
- How the R20 Method WorksLaser Tattoo removal treatments form tiny vapor bubbles in the skin (frosting) that looks like fine white powder. Ordinarily, this frost refracts the laser beam preventing it from penetrating the skin. After 15-20 minutes the frost disappears making it possible to do another treatment or “pass”. The R20 Tattoo Removal method simply waits for this to happen and lets us treat clients 3-4 times in one visit.
- R20 Results (Good to Excellent)Combining three to four laser tattoo removal treatments during one office visit lets the laser reach deeper than with a traditional single-pass treatment. One R20 treatment would be sufficient to completely remove an amateur black tattoo or for lightening a tattoo for a new one. For professionally applied black tattoos, however, about 50-75% fading will occur. This is significantly more fading than expected from 3-4 conventional treatments. Using the R20 method will cut the total time for removal by half or more.
- R20 Discomfort (Same as Conventional Treatments)The discomfort experienced in R20 treatments is no worse than conventional treatments for which the majority do not want pre-numbing.
- Post Treatment Experience (Some Discomfort)Most clients will be able to return to normal activities immediately or in a day. Site-specific swelling, inflammation is common as is slight bruising and blistering around the treated area. There are slight differences in post-treatment care.
- Safety (Proven Safe)The R20 method of tattoo removal is effective and safe. There are no increased side effects seen with this new method of treatment on black tattoos. R20 is safe on all skin-types. As always at Advanced Laser Skin Center, SAFE tattoo removal is our primary concern.
- Advanced Laser Skin Center offers R20 Tattoo Removal sessions. An R20 Tattoo Removal session includes 3-4 treatments. The TOTAL cost for removal will work out to be the same or less than conventional treatments.
