- Medical Weight LossArm Lift Surgery (Brachyoplasty) is one of those operations that you would never think about unless you needed it. Excessive fat and skin on the back of the upper arm is not an unusual problem. Most often it is related to weight loss but can also be a problem that you just develop with time. The surgery is directed at creating a more normal contour of the upper arm to better match what is above and below that area. Although every effort is made to disguise and limit the length of the scar, it is on the back of the arm and patients must be realistic about the nature and location of the scar. The specific risks and the suitability of this procedure for a given individual can be determined only at the time of consultation. All surgical procedures have some degree of risk. Minor complications that do not affect the outcome occur occasionally. Major complications are rare.
- GynecologyWhile Plastic Surgery is clearly known for our involvement in Cosmetic Surgery, most people are not fully aware of our involvement in Reconstructive surgery. While the care of Trauma patients is clearly identified with Plastic Surgery, so is cancer reconstruction as well as Birth deformities. Our specialty often works closely with other specialties such as General Surgery, ENT, Gynecology, Cardiac Surgery and Neurosurgery. Our unique attention to detail and skill set allows us to play a very active role in the care of many types of surgical problems.
- Pregnancy
- General Surgery
- Ear SurgeryFacial Plastic Surgery has been one of the more glamorized aspect of Plastic Surgery. While facelift surgery is frequently asked about, Eyelid surgery is much more common. Eyelid surgery is a very common procedure and crosses all types of gender, age and economic classifications. Nasal surgery is a broad mixture of patient types as well. Otoplasty (ear surgery) is most commonly performed on children.
- Neurosurgery
- Vascular SurgeryDuring this training Dr. Fulks was involved in numerous research endeavors that include studies in facial trauma, cancer and vascular surgery and published numerous studies in the medical literature. Dr. Fulks came to Columbia, Tennessee to start his Plastic Surgery practice in 1991.
- Reconstructive SurgeryGaspare Tagliacozzi was a sixteenth century Italian surgeon who is often referred to as the "father of Plastic Surgery", described our interest in reconstructive surgery and said it best when he said...
- BotoxBotulinum Toxin Type A (BOTOX® Cosmetic) is a protein complex produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum, which contains the same toxin that causes food poisoning. When used in a medical setting as an injectable form of sterile, purified botulinum toxin, small doses block the release of a chemical called acetylcholine by nerve cells that signal muscle contraction. By selectively interfering with the underlying muscles' ability to contract, existing frown lines are smoothed out and, in most cases, are nearly invisible in a week.
- Brow LiftAdditional procedures that would enhance the result are: Eyelid Lift, Brow Lift, Chemical Peel, Facial Sanding (dermabrasion), Chin Enlargement, Nose Reshaping (rhinoplasty), Fat Suction, and Laser Skin Resurfacing, Cheekbone Enhancement, Augmentation/Enhancement of Lips, Reduction of Earlobes.
- Eyelid SurgeryBlepharoplasty can enhance your appearance as well as your self-confidence. As people age, the eyelid skin can stretch, muscles often weaken, and fat tends to accumulate around the eyes. This can result in "bags" forming above and below or a droopy look around the eyes. Sometimes these problems occur in younger people if droopy or baggy eyelids run in your family. Upper eyelids and lower eyelids can be addressed at the same time or each separately. The procedures are significantly different, but the recovery is very similar. Eyelid surgery can be the right answer to correct these conditions.
- LiposuctionBody procedures will include a wide variety of cosmetic procedures. Abdominal surgery, liposuction procedures as well as arm and thigh procedures. These procedures share a common goal of establishment of some balance to the body. When one part of your body seems larger or shaped differently from the areas surrounding it, our bodies appear out of balance.
- Breast AugmentationBreast Augmentation is one of the single most requested procedures in our practice. Patients come from all walks of life and ages. Patients frequently complain of clothing, activity and self-image issues that have been long-standing and frustrating. Most patients who seek this operation simply want to feel balanced. Breasts that are smaller than your body build “expects” can impact clothing choices, activities and many other simple issues in life to be more complex. Larger breasts will not make everything in your life better...however, it can enhance many aspects of life and help you achieve the balance that you desire.
- Breast ReductionThere are very few operations that have brought more happiness into the world than breast reduction surgery. Improvement in Back, Neck, Shoulder pains, Headaches etc. are clear benefit to patients. However, there is also clear improvement in lifestyle issues, clothing issues, activity issues as well as general improvement in healthy living. This procedure is a significant surgical procedure, but generally not extremely painful. The recovery is generally predictable. Dr. Fulks has performed this procedure thousands of times in his 21 years of plastic surgery practice.
- Breast LiftGravity and fluctuation in breast size can lead to some pretty unacceptable changes in your breasts. Having children and variations in weight will lead many patients to inquire about Breast Lift surgery. Some patients have a slight droop to their breasts while others will have a much more detrimental change. These variations in presentation makes breast lift surgery one of the most variable procedures that we do. For the woman whose breasts are too large or sagging, we perform a breast lift/reduction, which involves removing excess skin (and, if necessary, tissue) and repositioning the breast. Women who want larger, firmer, or more symmetrical breasts can get saline implants with or without a breast lift.
- RhinoplastySTANDARD RHINOPLASTY: Incisions are made inside the nostrils. The nasal bones, cartilage, and soft tissues are reshaped to improve external contour.
- Breast ReconstructionWomen whose cancer seems to have been eradicated with mastectomy are the best candidates for breast reconstruction. Those with health problems such as obesity and high blood pressure and those who smoke are advised to wait. Others prefer to postpone surgery as they come to terms with having cancer, consider the extent of the procedure, or explore alternatives.
- Plastic SurgeryIt seems as if there is something in the media everyday concerning some new and previously undiscovered plastic surgery product. Frequently, these are presented as "human interest stories" but in reality they are advertisements. In the past, products made it to the market after undergoing some non-bias evaluation and independent research. Because that is not the case any more, patients will clearly find themselves lured into believing some hype and inaccurate information.
- Thigh LiftAdditional procedures that may enhance the result are Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty), Breast Reduction, Breast Lift, Breast Augmentation, Thigh Lift, or Buttock Lift.
- Face LiftIn time, gravity, sun exposure, and the stresses of daily life take their toll on our faces. Facelifts counteract these problems by removing fat and tightening skin and muscles, giving your face a fresher more youthful look. Understanding the nature of the problem and identification of the anatomy that is responsible for your appearance is critical for patients undergoing this procedure. There are numerous different facelift procedures. Finding the best balanced procedure to match your goals for outcome, recovery and longevity is a very important step.
- Neck Lift
- BlepharoplastyA Browlift can revitalize drooping or lined foreheads, helping you to look less angry, sad or tired. Using either traditional or minimally invasive (endoscopic) methods, the muscles above the eyes are altered to smooth lines and raise the eyebrows for a more youthful appearance. The procedure is often combined with other operations such as blepharoplasty and face-lifts to improve the look of the eyes and other areas of the face.
- AbdominoplastyThe procedure reduces excess skin and fat from middle/lower abdomen. It may include a tightening of mid-line muscles of the abdominal wall. Abdominoplasty is not a treatment for obesity. If you want to lose weight, do so prior to having a tummy tuck.
- Breast SurgeryBreast surgery is such a common procedure in our world. Cosmetic and Reconstructive procedures are the most common surgical procedures in our practice. Creating a properly shaped, sized and positioned breast is central to successful breast surgery. Reconstructive Breast Surgery as well as Cosmetic Breast Surgery are designed to establish a proper balance so that you feel comfortable in your clothes and in your life. View these pictures with the concepts of balance in mind.
- OtoplastyProminent Ear deformity is a problem that typically occurs at birth but may become more evident in childhood and generally does not get better. This ear deformity is clearly a source of ridicule in younger children, but is also a source of embarrassment for anyone who has not had it repaired. This is a cosmetic procedure that is commonly performed on children. This is a delicate procedure, but is well tolerated by even young patients especially when they are well prepared. Insurance coverage for this procedure is not reliable regardless of how “medically necessary” it may be considered.
- Gynecomastia
- Cosmetic SurgeryFacial Cosmetic surgery covers a broad spectrum of surgery. Not only are there are many procedures that are performed on the face and there many ways to do those procedures. While it may seem that all eyelid operations are the same, the reality there are numerous procedures. Find the right surgical approach to address your concerns is our main goal as we evaluate patients. These photographs have been selected to allow you to see the changes caused by these procedures. We hope you find these helpful.
- Dermabrasion
- Forehead LiftAdditional procedures that would enhance the result are: Face Lift, Forehead Lift, Chemical Peel or Laser Skin Resurfacing.
- Skin CancerThere are many types of skin cancer and collectively, they represent the most common form of cancer today. Basal cell carcinoma is the most common type and most of those occur on the face. Even though it is very curable, it may leave a large defect on the face that can represent a significant reconstructive challenge. Squamous cell carcinoma is also a very treatable problem as well.
- Chemical PeelsPhysician overseen skin care can have an impressive improvement on your appearance. This can be a skin program that is overseen by our staff or all the way up to deeper chemical peels performed by Dr. Fulks. - Skin CareMinimally invasive procedures are procedures that are performed with minimal downtime and recovery. These procedures are well tolerated and most commonly performed in the office. While these procedures are less invasive than other "open operations" they can be quite powerful in the right patient. These procedure include Botox injections, Skin Care or filler injections such as Juvederm.
