WIS Television is the NBC local affiliate that provides news, programming, entertainment and information to residents of the greater Columbia, S.C., area. The station, which broadcasts on channel 10, began operations in November 1953. In 2002, WIS newscasts received an 'A' grade from The Project for Excellence in Journalism, a research organization located at Columbia University. It is owned and operated by The Liberty Corporation, a media corporation that owns 15 network-affiliated television stations throughout the Midwest and Southern United States.
