- Dental CareRegular dental examinations and maintenance are important to maintaining or improving feed efficiency, performance and comfort of the horse. The vets at Conley and Koontz Equine Hospital recommend that every horse get an oral examination twice a year.
- VaccinationVaccination's for the Pregnant Mare - At Conley and Koontz we believe that mares should be vaccinated to prevent: herpesvirus, rotavirus, eastern equine encephalitis, western equine encephalitis, tetanus toxiod, influenza, potomac horse fever, rabies, west nile virus, and strep equi. We can help design an effective vaccination program for your mare. We can help implement the program using our staff to administer vaccines or we can drop off vaccines for you to give at the appropriate time.
- Veterinary OphthalmologyDr. Gran spent her childhood in Southern Connecticut where she spent much of her time being involved in 4-H. Dr. Gran completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Findlay. She was then accepted to Tufts University College of Veterinary Medicine, where she received her DVM in 2007. She then completed an internal medicine residency at Purdue University in 2011. While she enjoys all aspects of equine medicine, she has special interests in foal care, metabolic diseases, exercise related problems, preventative medicine and ophthalmology.
- Behavioral CounselingStallion management and semen evaluation - Frequency of collection, type of extenders and behavioral problems can affect the ability to use a stallion. At Conley and Koontz Equine Hospital we can do a thorough evaluation of your stallion to help manage him to his fullest potential. It is not uncommon to have a stallion with great genetic merit and poor semen. Proper diagnostics and management of these stallions can significantly improve their fertility. Proper semen evaluation can also help maximize the number of insemination doses per collection. (Remember you are not only competing with genetics but service and semen quality)
- Nutritional CounselingConley and Koontz Equine Hospital offers 24 hour mare watch using webcams, a foalert system, and an in-hospital veterinarian to deliver a live foal. - Parasites Treatment and Control
- Pain ManagementDepending on your horses condition, we have various diagnostic and therapeutic services to allow the veterinarians and staff at Conley and Koontz Equine Hospital to treat your horse successfully. These services include...
- Skin Condition and Allergy Treatment
- Arthritis TreatmentA novel therapy called Pro-Stride is now available for the treatment of osteoarthritis and degenerative joint disease in horses. Treatment with Interleukin-1 Receptor Antagonist Protein (IRAP) utilizes progressive therapy to combat osteoarthritis in your horse. Interleukin-1 (IL-1) is an inflammatory compound that is secreted by many types of cells. IL-1 is an important part of the inflammatory response but in the case of your horse's joints sometimes can be detrimental. The joint fluid carries a protein called interleukin-1, which plays an important role in inflammation and accelerates the deterioration of tissues like joint cartilage. Interleukin-1 Receptor Antagonist Protein (IRAP) plays an important role by blocking IL-1 from binding to tissues and inhibits the damaging consequences of IL-1. In addition, Pro-Stride has significantly elevated levels of other anti-inflammatory cytokines and anabolic growth factors.
- Wound and Fracture CareWe perform many surgeries in the mare. These include: cervical laceration repair, rectovaginal tear repair, ovariectomy, oocyte collection, and emergency/elective cesarean sections.
- Veterinary SurgeryThe surgery facility at Conley and Koontz Equine Hospital consists of two surgery suites with adjacent padded recovery rooms providing efficient transportation to/and from surgery. The staff surgeon, Ryan Rothenbuhler, at Conley and Koontz Equine Hospital is knowledgeable, innovative, and well equipped to provide excellent surgical services, and handle a high volume of orthopedic, soft tissue, and emergency surgeries annually. With the help of our support staff, we perform preoperative planning, anesthesia, surgical preparation, surgery, recovery, and postoperative convalescence. Our hospital offers various types of orthopedic and soft tissue surgical procedures.
- Spaying and NeuteringReproductive Surgery The most common reproductive surgery that we perform in the horse is the castration. Traditionally we have left the scrotum open to heal. New techniques allow us to close the scrotum after the castration, simplifying the aftercare of the horse and allowing them to heal faster as well as allowing you to spend less time enforcing exercise, cold-water hosing, and worry whether the incisions are still open to drain.
- Laboratory ServicesAll foals should be seen 24 to 48 hours after birth - The first few days in a foals life can be the most important. All maternal antibodies are absorbed thru the colostrum in the first 24 hours of life. The newborn foal is particularly susceptible to: septicemia, pneumonia, colic, rupture of the bladder, genetic disorders, neurologic disease, diarrhea, and failure of passive transfer. It is imperative that a veterinarian examine your foal to identify medical issues and perform blood work in this dangerous period of life.

- Equine VetPro-Stride is another therapy to be added to the battery of weapons that the equine veterinarian has to combat osteoarthritis in your horse. The reason Pro-Stride is so exciting is its' potential for a long-term effect on battling osteoarthritis. Whereas some of the therapies currently used might only have short-term effect, Pro-Stride has the potential to stop the cartilage matrix from being degraded and increase healing. Pro-Stride has the ability to stop the inflammation cycle and bring comfort to your horse.
