Grand View was the worst rental experience we’ve EVER had.

First I want to start with the straw that broke my back. I went to the office to renew my lease for another year, they said ‘great’, pushed a few buttons on the keyboard then looked up and said “Your new rent will be INCREASED $120” I said “what, how in the world can a rent be increased that much for such a mediocre place”? She said “Market Value”. Then she said “oh, it seems like you can’t afford this so let’s start the move out process”. I told her I can afford it (and more) but I won’t pay that to a company that treats its residents like that.

Now, let me list some things that make Grand View a terrible place to live.

• This was NOT a gated community. Its only a gated community if the gates close and lock. None of the gates worked. The gate in the back has never shut in the past year that I was there.

• Speaking of gates. BEWARE that if you have small children (or pets) the two pools on the property DO NOT lock or even latch closed properly. Serious risk for injury in the pool.

• Both the bathtubs in my 2 bathroom apartment were so damaged, cracked, old and worn they sounded like you were going to fall the floor and into the apartment below.

• The wall air conditioner unit is a joke. It’s a waste of space.

• I asked if there was recycling available and they said yes....but in fact its a no.

• Upon my Enter Walk Thru (the first day) overall the place looked good. Fresh paint, nice carpet, not too bad. BUT the kitchen stove/oven is 30 years old or more. None of the burners sat flat. The drip pans were dried and caked with something gross from the previous tenant. I am a vegetarian, so I don’t cook a lot on the stove. But when I moved out one year later the management team charged me for replacing those drip pans that were nasty when I got in. I might have cooked 40 times on that stove for the entire year I was there. And what I was cooking didn’t leave black piles of goop in the drip pans.

• My daughter has huge pet allergies so I asked if this unit we were going into had pets from the past tenants, they said no….but of course, my apartment did. There was dog kibble under the washer and a rawhide bone behind the dryer. There was cat pee stained on the balcony screen. Luckily my daughter didn’t have an allergic reaction. But someone in management should have known about animals in this unit.

• The day I was moving in, the movers I hired were carrying in my couch when the second concrete step from the top simply broke. It came loose from half on the brackets it had keeping it together. The very first call I made was to emergency maintenance. A guy came out and patched it up quickly, but when I showed him the second step from the bottom starting to do the same thing he said he’d come back to fix it but never came back. I did a maintenance request to repair the bottom steps, but nothing was done to my request.

• Since I was there (1 year) there was 3 new “Community Directors” and new property maintenance people. Not even the employees are staying around this mess.

• They have the model apartments up front next to the pool so you don’t get to closely see the rest of the property. The models are the best they have; all the other apartments are second-rate at best.

• The term “Normal Wear and Tear” DOES NOT APPLY HERE. Examples: The horizontal blinds in the second room had 2 bent blinds (not broken, not busted off… only bent). That’ll be $45. And one bent vertical blind in the living room will be $50.

Don’t expect a return on your deposit. They will hit you with hidden charges like $80 carpet cleaning and payments for back utilities from when you moved in.

Save your time, money and energy by not moving into Grand Suck Apartments.
