My only 2 experiences with this company have been nothing but rotten. I never even hired this company or worked directly with them, but I suffered from just being around their projects. Their crews and business etiquette are the worst I’ve ever seen from a contractor. To begin, I live on a corner lot in a newly built home. This Spring, I was in the process of putting in my yard including trenching sprinklers, removing rocks and grading out for sod to be laid. This company’s crew would park daily around my house and yard to work on their projects in my neighborhood. That wasn’t an issue but eventually, every day we went out to work, we would find cigarette butts, pizza crusts, water bottles, Five Hour Energy bottles, wrappers, sandwich bags, etc. in my park strips and gutters. That’s where it began. We called their office on a few different occasions and let them know of the issue with no resolution. They kept promising they would pass it on to a supervisor, but nothing ever changed. Additionally, we let them know that we struggled trying to maneuver trenchers and skid-steers around their vehicles but again, nothing ever happened. We would have to do a sweep of the day’s trash before starting any sort of work. Repeatedly we called their main office and asked if they could please have their employees move their cars to the adjacent parking lot so we could freely work on our yard and not have to clean up their daily trash. It eventually took 5 different calls between me and my wife over several weeks’ time before something finally happened. Luckily enough for us, they moved their cars just a few days before our sod was delivered. It didn’t end there.

They began work on the lot next to my house. That side of my house was not sodded yet but prepped for sod to be laid. It was rock free, graded out, raked and smoothed for sod. Thurgood’s crew brought in an excavator that destroyed that whole prepped area. I confronted one of the workers on site and he assured me that they would fix it and have it back to normal. The next thing I know, they load up their excavators and leave without doing any sort of reclamation work. I called Thurgood’s office and let them know that their crews destroyed my sod-prepped yard and they told me that they left it better than what it was originally. The area had massive track marks in it, huge rocks, way too much dirt that was brought in by them and not anything like it appeared before. They sent me pictures that they’d taken of the job but, funny enough, none of the pictures were of the ruined area. Yet they continued to claim it was “better than before”. They left with no effort to right their wrong. Additionally, I sent pictures to their office and their response was, “we believe the crew went above and beyond” to fix the issue. They think that their workers did a better job at grading out my yard than a professional landscaper, yet they left track marks, massive rocks and a huge excess of dirt. The biggest thing that stands out to me with these issues is that they’ve never even so much as apologized for their error or tried to make any sort of resolve. They basically told me to go pound sand and shove it. Now I’m stuck cleaning up their mess and I never even hired them. At all costs, I would avoid this company. Not so much because of the work but because of the customer service, their attention to detail and the way they treat people. Had they said that they at least made a mistake, my feelings toward them would be different but they haven’t hardly given me the time of day let alone trying to fix the mistake that their crews did to my yard. If they think that they left it better than before, do not let them touch your yard or home.
