- Dental ExaminationYour child’s first visit to our office will include a comprehensive medical history review along with a thorough dental exam.
- X-raysThere is very little risk in dental X-rays. Pediatric dentists are especially careful to limit the amount of radiation to which children are exposed. Lead aprons and high-speed film are used to ensure safety and minimize the amount of radiation.
- Teeth CleaningAt Young Kidz, we offer one of the best child sedation dentists in the Portland area by using a blend of nitrous oxide and oxygen delivered through a nasal mask and absorbed in the lungs. Nitrous oxide is also called “laughing gas” because it creates a sense of calm well being and happiness; it also reduces the gag reflex and gently numbs the teeth and gums so that your child can relax and not feel any pressure during their dental cleaning or dental procedure.
- Fluoride TreatmentThe exam will consist of an evaluation of the teeth and gums, a head and neck exam, and a preliminary orthodontic evaluation. We will determine if any x-rays are needed and discuss if a cleaning and fluoride treatment will be done at that time. We will then review our findings with you in detail and design a treatment plan to fit your child’s needs. Most importantly, a program of preventive home care will be discussed and reviewed to help build a lifetime of healthy habits and a cavity-free smile.
- Dental SealantsSealants are an excellent treatment in the prevention of cavities. According to the Center for Disease Control, “school-age children without sealants have almost three times more cavities than children with sealants.” Sealants are a safe plastic filling material which “seals” or fills in the grooves and crevices on the chewing surface of the teeth. This prevents plaque and food from getting caught in the teeth, causing cavities.
- Space MaintainersSpace maintainers are appliances custom fit to your child’s mouth to hold open the empty space left by a premature lost tooth. This will prevent the remaining teeth from tilting or drifting into the empty space causing future orthodontic problems.
- Fillings
- VeneersFinally, more severe tooth discolorations, as seen in enamel fluorosis or tetracycline staining, might require white fillings or veneers to mask the color.
- CrownsStainless steel crowns are used to treat back teeth because they are stronger than white crowns, being able to withstand the biting force needed for chewing. White crowns are used on the front teeth to maintain structure and esthetics.
- Dental Bonding
- Oral SurgeryInfections in the mouth. Bad breath can also come about as a result of cavities, plaque buildup, mouth sores, or oral surgery.
- OrthodonticsA pediatric dentist completes a two year residency program after dental school which focuses on the unique aspects of children’s oral health including: child psychology, dental growth and development, sedation, hospital dentistry, interceptive orthodontics, and behavior management.
- BracesThere are several causes of discolored front teeth including dental trauma, excessive fluoride, severe childhood illness, certain medication use, or poor hygiene during braces.
- Teeth WhiteningTeeth bleaching is the simplest treatment to whiten teeth since it can be done at home and requires no anesthetic or tooth removal. The dentist can customize the time, frequency, and concentration of bleaching material to best suit the age of the child and extent of the condition. It comes in convenient pre-filled disposable bleach trays for ease and comfort.
