The Reading Police Department is a full-service law enforcement agency that prevents crime, protects residents lives and property, and preserves peace and order. It employs a staff of more than 20 full- and part-time sworn and nonsworn officers, civilians and community volunteers. The police department operates a communication center that responds to over 12,000 calls annually for law enforcement, fire and emergency medical assistance. The Reading Police Department maintains a Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team.
