My daughters car was towed to Pep Boys when it would not start. For an inspection fee of $89.99, Pep Boys determined that the vehicle needed a complete engine replacement at an estimated cost of $4,866.52. I was told that the engine would not run due to low compression in three of the four cylinders. Rather than replacing the engine, I rented a trailer and brought the vehicle back to Ottawa, Ohio for a second opinion. Surprisingly, I was able to start the vehicle and drive it onto the trailer under its own power. When I arrived in Ottawa, I again started the vehicle (this time in less than 2 seconds) and drove the vehicle around the block prior to parking it at the shop. The following day, the local shop informed me that the vehicle repair was complete, with the main issue being a defective O2 sensor. Repair cost was less than $300.00 I do not know how a $300.00 repair justified a complete engine replacement, but I will not be doing business with Pep Boys anytime in the future.
