Provided by YP.comI took my family back to a place we used to go when we were kids expecting the same atmosphere, service and food. To my dismay what we found was not even close to our memories. The dining room was very dirty. The table was sticky and the chairs had taped over holes. The salad bar contained very little variety and what appeared to be supermarket prepared salads. The buffet food was terrible- the rolls were stale and dry, the chicken noodle soup had chunks of slightly burned crust scraped from from the bottom of the pot, the beef was tasteless and stringy, the oysters were swimming in rancid oil/grease (they charge extra for this experience), the vegetables were canned and at this point we gave up on the buffet. The final disappointment was the strawberry shortcake. In the month of August you would expect fresh strawberries. Not here, they were frozen and had an aftertaste like they had been stored uncovered and picked up a "refrigerator" taste. The cake could have been a doorstop. Enough said, save your money and go to McDonalds.
Buckhorn Inn provides wonderful dinners for guests, travelers, and locals in an historic setting. Every meal we have had there has been a treat, from the menu to the preparation to the service. They only feed folks on weekends, and reservations are advisable, but the experience is worth making the time.Their fixed menus on special occasions, such as New Year's Eve, are especially delightful.
